Maybe a piece of alloy strip with nutserts in it on the inside and machine screws from the tyre side through the steel guard, sandwich the plastic and into the alloy strip. That would hold it in a similar position as now but tight against the steel lip. No mud and no less clearance (except the little machine screw heads).[LEFT]Silver 150 Facelift

Mine on a TJM bar where both just sitting there. Was installed by toyota so not really surprised. Both sides rattled badly, they drilled a hole and cable tied through the steel guard and plastic liner. I thought it was dodgy but it has fixed the rattle and allows a bit of movement still. I was going to use some of those little u shaped trim clips that hold with a self tapping screw, I think I'll leave the cable ties and see how they hold up.
Cheers, Nova

If you do fix it solidly, the plastic guard will just pull off with the flex of the guard being different to the flex of the body. Mine are screwed with teck screws but I have to refix the guard every now and then.
