I installed a 2" lift about a year ago. Bilstein shocks all round. I had a closer look under the car the other day and was surprised at how much damage was on the shocks. I average one camping trip a month and a third of those trips would have gravel roads. Not really a lot of offroad driving. I've done several trips to the beach and because the paint has chipped off it is rusting and looking quite ordinary.
I had a look around at what was available and decided to come up with something a bit sturdier than what I could buy. 2mm stainless because there is no paint that will withstand the sandblasting from gravel and stones. Decided to make it 2 part to protect the bolt and provide a bit more bracing.
First part wraps under the shock and bolts to the shock mount also.
Shock guard then bolts to the side of the bracket and protects the shock and lower bolt head
Pretty happy with the way they turn out. Still plenty of clearance around the shock for cooling and articulation. Holes and openings on the bottom to allow mud and dirt to drain away.
