  • Roof rack brackets fallen into the roof

Hi, need advice, I'm fitting Rhino Backbone roof rails on, got drivers side bolted no dramas, but the left side middle bracket has fallen in the roof so I cant fix bolts to them. Would I need to take roof lining off from that area to access the bracket to push back up or should I just go to Toyota?

Yes, the ones that are built into the roof to screw bolts into that hold roof rails, went to put new rails on and the bracket in the roof has fallen in roof.

A bit late now, but a tip when removing the original roof rails or the clips if you don't have roof rails, is to crack open both bolts first, rather than undoing one bolt and removing it completely before cracking open the 2nd bolt.

Yes you would have to remove the trim around the seatbelts to see if you can get access to the bracket that has fallen in.

The rack attaches to a tapped plate. Try fishing around with a long M8 bolt. If no go try a thinner wire or screw driver and move it to find a threaded hole.

If you can line up both the just use the long bolt to pull it up, use the correct one in the other hole then sap the long one for the correct bolt.

I might have threaded 2 of the threads in 2 brackets, I ordered another 2 from Toyota and will pull roof lining down and fit. I'm sure to wreck something.

Well I give up, been trying for the last 2 hours to pull the plastic trims of to pull roof lining down and can't get the bottom sections off and not to mention scratching the plastic.
