My apologies if this has been discussed before. I tried to search, but didn't find anything. I want to remove the third row seats in Prado Kakadu. In the last six years I used them maybe four or five times. It doesn't seem too difficult a job. My question is, if someone here did it, how did you cover the floor? Will a piece of carpet from Bunnings do the job or is there anything that needs to be protected?

You really need to build a false floor. Try searching false floor on here as a few members have posted pics etc. Also a good article online you can google. https://www.dewijn.net/preparation/g...ms-boot-ready/

I made up a rectangular frame of 19mm pine timber to bring the level up to the old false-floor level and added a (hinged) sheet of 16mm MDF for the new floor. I keep a small tool box, the tow bar insert and a few seldom-used odds and ends in the void. The only problem with this solution is that you have to remove most of your cargo before you can lift/open the floor the access the space. Fitting a pair of drawers would be a good option but not as cheap!
Unlike Liam (see link above), I found removing the thirsd-row seats fairly straightforward (2017 GX). They're wrapped in builder's plastic in the shed, ready for when I sell the Pardo, years from now.

I managed to complete this little project. Removed the seats myself, and the mechanic put the plywood floor in. Mind you, being obsessive as I am I removed the board and was glad I did. That plastic part that frames the rear of the floor is held by several plugs, and the guy who did the job didn't put the plugs back in. So after the first water crossing the boot would pick up some water. Anyway, I sorted this out and covered the board with some Bunnings carpet. A little sloppy in the corners, but not bad for a guy with my carpeting abilities!

Just be aware that if you sell your Prado you will need a modification plate to get a Safety Certificate as you have reduced the number of seats, not sure if it applies to all states but definitely applies in QLD.'18 VX, Billies with Dobinson springs, Summit bar with Narva Enhanced Optics to help my old eyes

It has to be supplied and fitted by someone approved to sign off on modifications, some mechanical workshops/approved inspection stations will have someone on staff approved or most likely will know someone who does mod plates for them.
