  • Rims

I have 2013 Prado with stock rims.
Its 7.5 inches wide with ET 25mm.
    stock tires are at 265/65/R17
I want to buy beadlock rims for offroading reasons.
can I change my wheels to 8.5 inches from 7.5 inches?

Hi mate. You can change rim widths and sizes etc, but each rim needs to be checked that it suits your vehicle. A GOOD tyre shop should be able to help.
On another though, and not being rude at all, but you seem fairly new to 4wding given some of the questions you have been asking, so I’m going to suggest bead locks are a complete waste of time and money for you. They are really only necessary for comp work and mainly used when running in excess of 33 inch tyres at super low pressures (below 8psi) in pretty aggressive situations.
I personally have never used them and will go to 8psi on a heavy tyre and 12psi on a road tyre with no dramas. My personal option is that a prado is the wrong vehicle for bead locks, if you are going that extreme, I’d be looking for a more capable vehicle.
Completely your choice of course, but don’t buy into the “must have a completely over done 4x4 to go off-road”. At least 50% of a vehicles capability is in the driver.

I really appreciate your expertise. It's true I am néw into offroading. I have moved from a mustang to Prado so am still exploring the offroading stuff and technicals.
here we mostly drive on sand in deserts so reduce the tire pressure to almost 8 so there are few chances of pop outs.

All good, beach and desert work is my favourite, very little chance of damage and a ton of fun.
I drive a fair bit on incredibly soft sand and usually 12psi does the trick. 8psi I keep for very sticky situations.
Im running a nitto muddie with a very strong sidewall so I have to go pretty low to get a good footprint. If you are running a standard light truck all terrain, I’d probably suggest 12-14psi would be fine for all but the really soft stuff so bead locks wouldn’t be necessary.
I’ve never needed to run 8psi for any extended period of time, just the odd really soft beach.
My personal preference would be to put the money towards a small lift, on board air compressor, maxtracs, recovery kit and some decent tyres.
Good luck whatever you decide is right for you.
