  • False Floor and Fridge Slide Installed

Finally got around to knocking up a false floor to attach our fridge slide to in preparation for our Eyre Peninsula trip in September.

I made the floor out of ply and covered it with an indoor/outdoor carpet from Clark Rubber. the shape was easy enough as I could just trace the Toyota factory rubber mat. Unfortunately the 900 x 1200 piece of ply I bought wasn't quite wide enough at the very rear, hence the small gaps. Still looks pretty good though.

I secured it to the floor using the existing captive nuts that hold the tie down hooks in and longer M6 bolts and large washers.

I then screwed the fridge slide in place using some 15mm screws.

Came up really well and is very secure.

I'll leave the fridge slide attached to the floor and pull the whole lot out as one when not in use. Then it's just a 5 minute job to pop it back in for trips.

    Cheers, Sam.

Nice work, and with the fridge in place you can't see the cargo barrier arms are mounted in different positions

Very true. Brilliant design by Toyota that one!

I made a very similar set-up. I was worried about the cantilever issues with the heavily laden slid out fridge, so I used 2 adjustable aluminium arms going from the false floor to the 3 rd row grab handle mounting points. Worked very well during my 2 week bush trip in July.

Can you say what thickness of ply?
Can you say the type of items used to hold ply where are the Tie downs and could you reuse the tie downs too as well as the fasteners, if you get what I mean?
              Thanks

                Bump

To both Hookedon... and Nedee - I'm curious as to the thickness of the ply. I think you said you used 15mm screws but don't want to assume you used 15mm ply.

                TIA

Yep, used 15mm ply. Was considering using 12 but changed my mind at the last minute. I've since upgraded to a set of Drifta drawers in the back.

                      Sam,

Many thanks for the detailed post. Just finished making mine last weekend. Works a treat using your instructions down to the tee.

                      Cheers.

                          Revisiting an old topic...
I need some advice re securing the front/forward end of my false floor which is installed with the rear seats removed - at the moment I use the 4 M10 rear seat bolt holes to secure it with counter-sunk stainless bolts (yes, these are very hard to find with 1.25mm thread and expensive) but am concerned that without the front being properly secured the whole thing can lift (note I have some DIY heavy plywood drawers mounted to the false floor) and is not as secure as it should be. The front M10 bolt holes are angled at 45 degrees so I can't use the same method as the rear. Reticent to make any new holes. Has anyone else come up with an answer?

Actually, no, hadn't seen that. The rear spacers are a great idea, wish I'd done it that way! The front metal work is good too, though I'm no so skilled and experienced at bending sheet metal, nor do I have the right tools at my disposal at the moment, but it gives me something to work on, many thanks for pointing it out!
