  • Where To Fit Fire Extinguisher

    Hi all,
Just wondering where those of you who have installed an extinguisher may have mounted it.
Although I'm getting a cargo barrier installed next week and thought I might mount it on that, I was also looking at alternate places where it would be in easy reach.

Not sure with 150 Series, but it works well to mount the extinguisher under the edge of the middle row seat on the driver's side. This would also be where you'd be storing the water sprayer when travelling is spinifex country.

Tek screws or, preferably, nuts and bolts, with some attention to where the screws come through underneath. You'll need to check that out for your vehicle.

HELP: Where To Fit Fire Extinguisher in 150 series

              BUMP...

 Can any 150 series owner help?

One a vertical mount, the other near a hand grip, again not suitable for myself.
Hence the reason for putting in the post.

So I again ask anyone, who has a 150, for mounting suggestions of the extinguisher.
              Cheers. 8)

Re: Where To Fit Fire Extinguisher

Mounted mine onto the cargo barrier, front side. Fixed the bracket with nuts, bolts and split rings to keep it in place.

Had one in the same place in an 80 series cruiser for 17 years, never fell off.

You can try various spots, however, they tend to get in the way of feet, heads, hands, etc. The plastic panels are not strong enough when bouncing around the outback, so a steel anchorage point is required. Some are attached to the floor, but you will need waterproof silastic to plug the bolt holes. A lot of plastic panels in the 150.

There are not many places to fit an extinguisher. Depending on how many people use the vehicle, or what is placed into the vehicle, you will need a place that is not used often, or will not get in the way of luggage. The only other thing is if you carry a box in the back for other goodies, you can leave the extinguisher in there.

                Yowie.

Re: Where To Fit Fire Extinguisher

I have bolted a 1.1kg fire extinguisher just infront of the passengers seat, on the angled ramp that leads up under the seat. Seat moves back and forward without any problems. And I guess in thoery I would not need to get out of the car to actually use it.

I practice however, its best to get out in the event of a fire, rather than attempt to use it while in the car....the fumes are deadly, and the heat quickly becomes unbearable. Having actually fought many car fires in a previous life as a fire fighter, its amazing just how fast and how ferocious a car fire can be. I have extinguished a carby on fire by simply putting a fire fighter glove on it, and I have been unable to extinguish a car fire without the use of lots and lots of water and foam... but the lesson is always the same, get out and get others out, and if safe to do so, attempt to extinguish....but it may be impossible with a 1kg Dry powder extinguisher....its certainly worth a shot if its small and just started....I wonder if any folk have experiences using a 1kg fire extinguisher in anger.....
