  • Lean as standard on KDSS?

    Hi,

i noticed a slight lean to the right side (our passenger side, since i am in Germany, so Left Hand Drive).

I also read about it a little, so it seems normal that Prados lean to the right side, but why?
    Does anyone have an explanation?

    Hi Daniel

I drive a Australian registered RH drive 150 prado (VX) which is fitted with KDSS. Yes they do lean, according to toyota, they can lean to ap to 20mm which is the factory accepted maximum tolerance. I don't know specifically the techniclal specifics on why but it's generic on KDSS fitted vehicles including the 200 series cruisers which also can come with KDSS. I have recently learnt a bit re this issue as I upgraded my suspension to Old Man Emu with a 2" lift done by ARB. ARB are aware of this issue of lean, as part of the 500 KM after fitment check up, they measure the lean and subsequently fit some packer shims to trim it back level to the match opposite LH side or at least with 5-8mm tolerance. So with the ARB OME kit, it's far less lean that what comes out of the factory.

    Cheers

Interesting, I was told by the local toyo dealer the accepted tolerance is up to 15mm max, I have had my kakadu back three times now and the local boys are waiting for new instruction from toyota head office.

Has anyone had a definitive fix from Toyota for the RH down Kakadu lean? If so,

1- how did they go about correcting it.

Mine went back and they tried all manner of things which fixed it a bit but then then said they'd have to adjust the sensors. But it's still down about 20 on the RH side.

I am looking at doing a lift and speaking to Cal at Cal offroad suspension today he advised that it is partly caused by bleeding of the actuators and there is not much you can do. So in other words great job Toyota I can now get out the car easier thanks to KDSS, maybe a feature we didn't know about, just like the buses when they pull up to a bus stop lower so it easier to get in and out. Dont tell Toyota they might use it as in excuse?? maybe be punt is true or maybe we just have failing actuators

Passenger side chassis rail under neath the car, basically directly under the passenger seat. It sits between the chassis rail and the sil, you will see the large metal plate protecting it and the hydraulic lines when you stick you head underneath.

I cannot tell you what causes the lean, I can tell you that to address it Toyota have fitted different length springs, the original measurement of my front springs showed one was 10 - 11 mm longer than the other.

Perhaps a way to level it up is to fit a spacer between the top of the strut and the strut chassis mount,

These are 3mm and 6mm, I fitted a 3mm one to level my car and it has worked (I also picked up 7mm by using Bilstein struts with the circlips in different positions left to right)
