  • Are front Prado struts same as FJ Cruiser?

Can anyone confirm whether the front struts in the 150s are the same bolt pattern on the seat of the top hat as a FJ cruiser? I'm trying to make sure that we can use the body of a strut made for a FJ Cruiser, choose a model with the right open / close lengths and then we'll custom valve the shocks to suit the Prado.

There's reference to FJ parts in the suspension bible but no-one that I've spoken with can absolutely confirm whether the bodies are interchangeable.

Yes the front strut mounting points are common to 120 and 150 Prado, FJ Cruiser and 2005+ Hilux, however the lengths of the struts do vary for different vehicles:

It is also possible to fit 80/100 series Landcruiser pre IFS rear shocks to the rear of 120 and 150 Prados and FJ Cruisers, again the lengths are different:

Thanks. I'd seen the references in those database files but as I'm talking with a US supplier on the shocks and I couldn't find anyone that would pull a Prado and FJ cruiser strut out to make sure that the top was identical I thought it was worth confirming before we went any further.

        Thanks again.

There are a few members here running FJ Cruiser Icon coilovers in Prados.

Peter, do you happen to know the front and rear strut lengths for the FJ cruiser? I'm also looking at buying bilstein struts from the US as it appears to be half the price of those over here, but they don't sell the Prado over there.

            Cheers,

            Mike

I just bought a set of Bilstein 5100 and 5160 series from Sonny at Downsouth Motorsports (downsouthmotorsports@gmail.com). I have installed the 5160 on the rear as I can do that myself easy. They're the remote reservoir model.

He provided me with the model numbers for the 4Runner and when I checked their model number for the FJ, they are the same.

If you tell Sonny, amts from Pradopoint sent you, I'm sure he'll look after you. I had a lengthy email correspondence with him trying to verify the specs to check for fitment. As with any shock spec, the damping rate is not made public.

So far with the rears, I can certainly notice the extra damping and better control over bumps and undulating roads with less wallowing.

I haven't done the front yet.

Look for front struts and rear shocks that will fit a 2007-2009 FJ Cruiser or maybe a 2003-2009 4 Runner. Like the Bilstein 5100 series 24-186711 front strut or the Bilstein 5100 series 33-187174 rear shock for example.

Edit- I see Andrew has you sorted

I'm not hearing great things about the 5100 series, though none of it has been substantiated. Just rumours of cheap components, manufactured in Mexico with poor quality control, and not rebuildable. Would the B6 HD's for the aforementioned FJ Cruisers or 4 Runners be okay?

Yes, the front Bilstein B6 24-125130 strut and the rear B6 24-186049 should also fit, however the front strut is listed as "non adjustable". Which probably means that you can't alter the position of the spring seat.

According to the application guide, the 5100 and 5160 series is for lifted suspension. The B6 looks to be for direct OEM replacement.
