  • After the lift I can't get the right camber + castor on the front........eating tyres

    Hi guys

I returned from a 750 km weekend( all blacktop) and noticed some wear on the outside of both front tyres.

The Yoko ATS tyres have only done 5k. I have ironman constant lift and steel b.bar.

The tyre guy said alignment and rotation- obvious solution. But at a previous wheel alignment done in SA the guy said that because of the lift kit, he was unable to get the camber and castor back to factory specs.

I went for the constant lift rather than the one below on the advice of the 4x4 store in Wagga and the Ironman tech dept as I intended to put more weight on through accessories. The inevitable happened and the $ dried up! I can live with that issue for a while, just don't want to cause unnecessary wear on tyres, which will in the end cost more money and push the winch, roofrack, fridge and camper trailer further away.

I have 2 thoughts on the matter

1 put more weight (winch) in the front of the car to compress the suspension and get more play in the camber and castor adjustment.... Would this work?

2 Replace some suspension components to allow for greater adjustability in the camber and castor. What components would I need to replace?

I have very limited knowledge and a solution soon, any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

I had a Tough Dog kit put in, and even though it included a wheel alignment I reckon they did nothing or had no clue. It had a pretty visible toe in. I took it it a specialist for an alignment and now it looks great. For the technical minded

Front before: LH Camber +0.7 Camber +1.1E +3.0
LH caster +0.6 RH caster +0.3

Front after: LH Camber -0.2 camber +0.3
LH Caster +1.6 RH Caster +0.8

    Reset toe to +1.00

How much lift do you have now, measured from the bottom of the front rim through the centre of the hub to the bottom of the front guard?

If your front lift isn't excessive, fitting a winch and dual battery may be enough. If your lift is over 60mm you could consider some replacement front upper control arms to return factory spec wheel alignment.

I had a similar problem after lifting my 90. Turned out the first 2 places that I took it to didn't have a clue - their big fancy machine didn't explain it properly... Took it to a 3rd place who had an experienced technician and he got it spot on, first time!
