  • Just an update ... the lean persists.
Contacted Dobinsons today for troubleshooting. The only thing he was aware of is that the KDSS would need "re-activating", however he could not explain the procedure nor did he knew about instructions/drawings available. Yet, he offered to contact headoffice to see if they have instructions available on the KDSS.
The install workshop that fitted my coils had instructions what to do with the KDSS on the 200 series but not the Prado.

    • Give Dobinsons head office in Rockhampton a call, they should have the answers.

I wish you were right! Just came off the phone with Bernie from Dobinsons in Rocky. Could not be much more disappointing:

I asked him whether he had further information on how to fix the lean or how to handle the KDSS.
He told me that "KDSS is not our cup of tea" in other words he had no further information and no further assistance
"You need to go to the person who installed it" was the only advice offered. He told me that it's always the installer to be held responsible.

I thought Dobinsons were doing R&D on the KDSS Prado models? How come they did not seem to know much at all? (he asked "do you have the KDSS in the rear" )

        Cheers

PS I wish I had them installed at Dobinsons ... then they had to deal with the problem

        • Anyone know if removal of the OEM TEMS affects traction control etc on the Kakadu?

            • Jasen according to your signature the King springs give you the same lift (40mm) or even a bit more than the Dobinsons.
What did you (the installer respectively) do with the KDSS? Open the valves ? Before or after fitting the springs?

              • From earlier posts the car settles flat with the engine running, has anyone measured off and on while the Kaka is sitting on a nice flat level surface?

But then I thought if I'm willing to spend the $950 I might as well just raise the ones I have and be prepared to replace them if they brake.

                  I'm still thinking lol
That was my line of thought with the airbags in my Grande. I actually have a set of Airbagman airbags ready to replace the OE Toyota airbags, but they are still going strong and I haven't bothered to change them yet.

I reckon that a couple of strong, well trained possums could replace the airbags and fix the lean at the same time.

                      • When I had my Kaka on the hoist I've noticed that the rear sensors seem to have some room for adjustment (ballheads / threaded rod) .
Has somebody tried to use those adjustments or gone straight to using washers? Would be interesting to hear your experience.

                        • With regards to the lean after a modest lift I would really like to understand the KDSS mechanics. What actually makes the KDSS produce the lean?
It appears that when front and rear wheels have similar pressure on one side of the vehicle (e.g. cornering) KDSS pistons are stopped from moving, resulting in a stiff swaybar. However, when front and rear wheel have different pressure it allows KDSS pistons to move, hence to soften the swaybars to allow more wheel travel. That's I understood from videos how it works, but I cannot figure how the system produces a lean?

PS Had it on hoist, opened the valves, lowered it, shook the vehicle, let it rest, closed the valves ... seemed slightly better but still a remarkable lean

They can be adjusted, but spacers are a more consistent adjustment 10mm = 30mm lift. Also the adjusters are a little delicate and costly to replace if you damage the potentiometer mechanism that they connect to, but you can certainly use them.

                            • As Peter said, go with the spacers. The threaded rod can then be moved up and down the slot for finer adjustments.

Prado / 200 instructions are virtually the same with exception to where the bleed valves are located, passenger side front under the passenger between the chassis and sill. Every thing else is the same in regards to bleeding, shaking etc.
