  • Suspension lift gone wrong...... maybe?

    Hi all,
had TJM fit their suspension set up today, not happy with the results! I was under the impression that HD springs were going to be fitted on the front and Medium on the rear? When I went back to collect the vehicle, was told they fitted medium springs front and rear, with a end result of 50mm lift in the rear and a 40mm drop in the front??? Sales guy stated he was extremely disappointed and would get onto it straight away tomorrow and let me know, but he was querying a faulty pair of springs?? I think they have fitted HD on the rear and MD on the front, because the ride home was considerable rough for what i was expecting? I'm going to give them a chance to fix it, but i thought i would throw it out there in forum land and see what words of wisdom people could possibly provide?

Never heard of a 40mm drop from a suspension upgrade. The muppets should not have let the car out of the workshop. Got a pic?

It would be impossible for the front to drop 40mm over std, did u have a bull bar fitted at the same time, have u measured it yourself.

I had issues when they fitted my suspension also.
check your struts, how many spacers are on the strut (under the spring seating plate)?
mine has a 20mm and an 8mm spacer.
if these haven't been fitted that may be at least 28mm of you lost height.

In reply to a couple of questions, the bullbar was already fitted, which only affected the standard suspension by 5mm at the time, i can confirm there are no spacers at all on either side? I agree it should have never left the shop, i still don't know why they didn't pick up on it when the vehicle was lowered to the ground and certainly before i came to pick it up? I had to take the vehicle as i live four hours away and needed to get home! Thanks for input, got a couple more questions for TJM now.Click image for larger version

This is their bread and butter and it pisses me off when these companies do piss poor work. The customer should be compensated because they are without the vehicle for a period of time to get the issue fixed, may have to take leave etc and the cost factor as well. Contact the shops manager in writing and see what he can do for you. If you get no result then contact head office in writing with the same question. If still no result post a video on youtube showing you vehicles suspension lift and the highlight the issues you had. I can understand we make mistakes but that's what a foreman is for, to check the work and if something goes wrong, contacting the customer straight away.

                Hi all,
So i had the front springs replaced the other day to a HD spring which has improved it a little but still only a 5 and 10mm lift above the OE suspension. So now its another trip back to Adelaide to the TJM store for a third attempt at getting this right, just a little frustrated with the results so far, but i'm sure it will be fixed this time round....

                OE suspension heights

                LF 750mm RF 760mm
                LR 780mm RR 790mm

                Ride after first set

                LF 740mm RF 755mm
                LR 830mm RR 840mm

                Ride height after second set

                LF 760mm RF 765mm
                LR 830mm RR 830mm

I have to apologies, in my first post i said it dropped 40mm, i missed read the form they provided.

                cheers

No, that's still not good. What struts are they using?
There should only be about 20-30mm height difference from front to back. 70mm is over the top.

                    Aido,

Give Darren from TJM Brendale a call, they have done quite a few Prado's all with similar measurements around the 800mm for front and 840mm for the rear. Like it was mentioned the vehicle should not have left the shop.

It makes me wonder about the information you have received in line with what you mentioned about the underbody protection.

Is that because it is sitting on a pedestal and not the suspension
