  • Help! advice on lift kit for my 150

I am chasing some advise on a lift kit for my GXL 150.

I bought it new this time last year and since new the suspension has been disgusting. WAY too soft, lots of body roll and wanders on the road quite a bit, even my Mrs noticed it!

I only want a 40mm-50mm lift and have narrowed my search down to the Tough dogs due to their warranty and the fact they are foam cells. Not to mention I keep hearing good thing about them! I can pick them up off net for about $1200.

Has anybody got Tough dogs in their 150?

I have a ARB deluxe winch bar on front(No winch yet but plan on it), dual battery system, drawer system in back(no heavier than the 3rd row seats I removed as I built them out of light weight material). We often go camping so there may be a little weight in back from time to time.

    Please help!

    I'm in the same situ.

I've been looking at OME or maybe tough dog. In OME I would get the heavy front and the 200 constant in the back - I was advised that even without that much weight in the back having the 200constants would be better than the lowest option ( which they call medium)

I recommend bilstein shocks and dobinsons springs, had them on my previous 150 prado in a 2" lift, have the same set up on my current 150 prado but in a 4" lift. When considering springs take into account if you are adding extra weight to the front or rear to get the appropriated rated springs. Any after market set up is better than original.

OME are meant to be great, but did you know they are just Monroe's rebadged and no doubt a few extra $$ added on them! A fella from ARB informed me of that! I think I'll end up going the Tough Dogs as they are foam cells!

Bilsteins are good and quite popular here on PP. Them and TJM XGS have the ability to adjust the coil seat height should your coils sag or you add more weight over the front.

I would not recommend installation of the HD front springs that will be required for the winch unless the winch is there when the springs go in.
It will cause the front to sit too high & will inevitably "top out" the shock & cause damage to it.

Do it once & do it right i reckon.

            Regards, Jason.

Most commonly people have rope winches weighing only about 25kg,
This varies the front 6-7mm in height, if without a winch they are going to top out, with it they will be much the same.
