  • King Comfort Taper?

Has anyone fitted King Comfort Taper springs to their 150? If so, please let me know which springs front and rear, what shocks you paired them with and what you think of them.

My 2014 GX will be arriving early May and I'm looking at the KTFR-101T or KTFR-101HT at the front and KTRR-102 or 102HD at the rear. I'll probably pair them with Koni shocks as I am very impressed with them in my 90 series.

I will fit a dual battery system and bullbar, but probably an ECB alloy to keep the weight down. I tend not to carry or tow heavy loads. Do you think I need HD or just standard springs?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Ian,

I have the KTFR-101T in the front, I have a winch smart bar(34kgs) and dual battery (only small 2nd) and ARB under-body protection plate, My ride height is 790mm, the ride is fairly good, A little body roll, I have OME nitro sport shocks in front and back. I have the KTPR-102 in the rear, they sit a 830mm pretty much all of the time, I have measured with about 30l in the tank and full tank with engel in the back as well, the measurement has not changed since installed.

just a word of caution don't go too hard, you will loose articulation and get more air time on the wheels when off road.

Thanks Leethal1, advice appreciated. I think you make a good point re HD spring. Maybe I need to consider airbags in the rear for the rare occasion when I carry a heavier load.

I find the progressive rears great, the best of both worlds, Since you are in perth, if you want to try any HD springs i have a set of OME bar and winch springs and 200kg-gvm rear springs in my shed if you would like to try the linear option, I think they re-define firm....

Again, advice appreciated Leethal. I had not noticed that they do a progressive rate spring - I'll definitely consider it.

Ian, if you need a hand with suspension, you know where I am.

Fitted up a set of these, KTFR 101HT for the front and KTPR 102 on the rear matched with Koni shocks. The ride is more comfortable than standard and the front no longer dives under when braking.

Very impressed with this setup and would highly recommend dealing with Jason from Wholesale Suspension (forum sponsor) for advice.

                Hi ijl,

I just got my 2010 gx and put the king springs comfort taper in along with the tough dog oil shocks and it has made the car so much better to drive.

Had just over 50000kms so old stuff was in reasonable condition but not only does it handle better but is more stable under braking and I don't have the heavy duty springs in the back but didn't even notice when towing a 600kg trailer. Have the heavy duty in the front coz of the steel bar.

When I bought them it was pointed out that Kings have a lifetime warranty which is pretty good

I ended up buying King Springs and Koni shocks from Jason at Wholesalesupsension and had them installed today at SA Suspension Centre. Front = KTFR-101T with K88-1712 Raids, Rear = KTRR-102HD with K82-2386SP1. Approx heights before and after:
                    Bare vehicle with towbar + original suspension - Front = 770, Rear = 790
                    With accessories installed + original suspension - Front = 755, Rear = 785
                    With accessories + King/Konis - Front = 778, Rear = 850.

I will be looking for more lift at the front so may need to fit a spacer. Rear is a bit more than I anticipated but will see what it is like offroad and with a load in the back. First impression is very positive compared with the factory suspension, but have only driven about 30kms in the suburbs.

Accessories fitted to the vehicle (2014 GX) include ECB alloy bar, Rhino Platform Rack, Dual battery system, Brown Davis undergaurds (full set), Drifta cargo drawers, cargo barrier. When I get time I will start a post in the My Rig Build Up section.

The rear is way too high. How much droop do you have at the rear? If you don't have enough, you will destroy the shocks.

HD coils at the front and mediums at the rear would be a better match I reckon.

Might have to check the rear droop Ian, that is a bit high.
Kings recommended that Ian to go to the HD's after he called them and spoke to them about his weight needs. We were initially going to put the KTPR-102 in it.

                        Regards, Jason.

I spoke with Kings again, but a different person this time. He disagreed with the previous recommendation to put HDs in and advised that the KTRR-102 would give approx 45mm lift with my setup. They are going to exchange the springs via my installer. I've also ordered a spacer from AJ120 which should give me about 10mm lift at the front.

Hi Ian, glad to hear that Kings have offered to swap them for you.

                            Kind Regards, Jason.

Spacers arrived today (great service from AJ120) and if the new springs arrive tomorrow I'll get the installation done on Friday and provide an update.
