  • Should I be going back to TJM to have front height adjusted?

Hi guys, Just wanted some opinions on my suspension measurements, as I have absolutly no idea what I am talking about! I posted this in the suspension measurements thread aswell.

Got my lift done at TJM in November, I didn't think it looked very high when it was done, but didn't really look too much into it after that. It wasn't until I was picking up my Pet Barrier from Tin the other day when he also commented that it didn't look that high either.

So I did some measurement this afternoon. From bottom of rim to bottom of guard:

    Front : 780
    Rear : 830

I can see from the posts on this forum that it should be closer to 790-800 at the front, and 830 as the rear which seem fine. When I was getting the suspension done, I also metioned that I was going to do a duel battery under the bonnet and they were going to take that into consideration, and I am yet to install the duel battery, so it would be even lower if that happens. I have no bullbar or winch, only extras are the rhino pioneer platform and ARB UVP. It seems to me like I have only got about 20-25mm of lift in the front, should I be going back to TJM to inquire about this?

    Parts #'s as follows :
    ( 659GE188LD Front Shocks)
    ( 650GE288LD Rear Shocks)
    ( 770FR88IT Front Springs )
    ( 770RR88IT Rear Springs)

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
    John

All I can tell you is that my 150, with stock suspension and an ARB bar on the front sits at 755mm. So you're an inch above that...
Given you haven't got a bar, I would expect you to be sitting higher...

Does your strut have the spacer under the coil saddle like this?

Which springs did you opt for and what size spacer do you have if they are the same as these? Easy to change spacers to increase spring preload.

Sorry about the fuzzy out of focus shot, it was the only one I had on the computer that showed the spacer.

Roughly what does a lift cost on a 150 Prado? I know the sky is the limit, what did it cost you from TJM?

TJM did the work and took your money so they should be the ones to answer your queries in the first place and make you feel happy so you will keep coming back.

They should be able to tell you what you ordered and if you got that.

If they are too far away then ring them and tell them the front looks to low.

My after sales service with TJM has been excellent.

You should be able to buy decent parts in a couple of brands to do the lift from $1050-$1300 depending on what you want to spend?

            Regards, Jason.

Thanks Jason. Thats about what I spent on my 80 series a few years ago. I didnt want a radical lift or ride, just a couple of inches up from standard and a slightly firmer less boat like ride. I had Tough Dog Springs and Shocks installed with a return to centre steering damper. It was the perfect set up on my 80. Would love the same one my 150.

Cheers Jason. You know I really stumbled across the set on my 80, got lucky I guess and put all my faith in the local Opposite Lock dealer at the time. Would ideally love to go in a similar model to mine thats been done so I can get a feel for the ride. When the time comes, I will look a round for someone.

Sorry for not getting back to everyone, have had a crazy week at work, and havent had a chance to do much until yetserday. Went into TJM and they told me that my height was in line with alot of the other Prado's they have done. I do seem to have a spacer already, but might be slightly smaller than the one in your pic mjrandom. I told them that I would still like to have gotten the full 45mm lift that they had sold to me, and their solution is to add another 10mm spacer. They have told me this should lift the front up between 15-20mm. Can anyone see any downside with doing it that way? Thanks again for all your replies, really appreciate it.

What TJM has proposed will be fine. A 10mm spacer would be the max to still get the alignment done without aftermarket UCAs.

What he ^ said. All good. I had to get my spacer changed from 25mm to 32mm (from memory). No problems.

They did the same thing with my car when the lift was initially fitted, only had about a 10mm spacer in there, they installed another about 20mm in addition.

I had to make a bit of a scene to have it fixed but they admitted in the end that its not at all uncommon to have to add spacers to get the ride heights sorted out.

What springs do you have Raised or Heavy duty raised. Also what do the top mounts look like. Cheers
