  • Adjusting Vehicle height

    Hi Guys,
I am completely new to this Forum and must admit that i am very new to Prado as well. Bought a brand new prado altititude special edition 2015 model yesterday so decided to join this forum.
I must be asking some silly questions here as this is my first ever 4WD . There were hips of other option but never got impressed with anything other than Prado. Bought it for a growing family . Kids are still small so not going off road for another 5 years atleast.
My kids are still small so i am wondering if there is a way to lower the height of vehicle to reduce the ground clearance so that they have to jump less and less risk i suppose.
If there is way, is its a big hassle ? I know you have that option with kakadu but not in this model.

    Cheers

Simple answer is no. Lowered springs aren't readily available.

I'm sure the kids will get used to climbing in and out of the Prado just fine. The side steps are a big help to them. Enjoy your new Prado and get out there with it and show your family some great places that you can't get to with a regular car!

        Welcome to Pradopoint!

Even on the Kakadu you can only lower it 20mm from standard with the TEMS factory shocks using the ride height control switch.

BTW, this is in the wrong forum so I'll alert a mod to move it for you.

Rose, I carry a plastic step from Bunnings in my car to get my mum in and out. That might help with the kids but I realise it's a bit of mucking around.

King Springs do list a lowered spring for gx/gxl 120 &150 - ktfs58 and ktrl102 which should be suitable for your Altitude.

Bolt on a steel bull bar, dual batteries and a winch to the front, dual wheel carriers to the back and you will get the suspension decrease you are after

I have two girls, now 5 and 3. They have no trouble climbing in and out. They have been doing it for last three years in a Patrol as well, no dramas.

Besides, climbing is a good motor skill to improve their development prior to school. And the standard Prado is not what you call high off the ground!

Grand-kids have been climbing in and out of our various 4x4's since about 30-36 months. This included the 200 land cruiser that was higher than the Prado. The "kid's" now got the 200 and they have lifted it 2" and the 4yo clambers in and out fine. They seem to enjoy it My advice would be to leave it alone and not lower it, or at least give it a few months before making that decision. You'll find a bit of height quite handy when hopping over curbs etc at the shops or wherever.
