  • Reputable suspension setup near Hornsby

Hi guys. Just picked up a new Prado GXL D4D today. Let the mods begin! First on the list is a steel bull bar and 2" or 3" of lift. My question is whether anyone can recommend a good suspension shop near Hornsby. Pedders and ARB are both in the area but I have no experience with either shop and I'm well aware that the expertise of the people doing the work is every bit as important as the hardware as I will be relying on their advice. Also i am aware that 2" lift is pretty common. Will 3" present a nightmare? Thanks in advance.

    Sean,

    Congrats on the new Prado.

Suspension is a tricky question and something that you may want to wait a while on as the springs need to be matched to the load of the car to get everything right. I would first look at what you are thinking of fitting to the car and work out when you would be doing it, as that will allow time to see what order to do things in. Once you have the list of items then you could talk to someone about what you want to fit, otherwise what is right for a stock car is not right for a fully accessorised one with a lot of extra weight.

As regards where in Hornsby to get it done, I would recommend my mechanic, Clarke Automotive in Brennan Close, they are not a 4wd shop, they are real mechanics who work on a lot of 4wds. They have a lot of experience in setting them up and have done a few, including my friends 120 and another friends 150, and will be doing mine in a few weeks time once I get the other accessories fitted first so we can work out the weight and get the right springs and shocks to take all the weight.

    Regards

I travel from the beaches over to Mannell Motors, hard to go past their experience with Prados. They did my Bar, Snorkel and Suspension on the 150 and work on my last 3 Toyotas as well.

Awesome! Thank a lot for the recommendations guys. That's just what I needed. And thanks Aidan for the great advice on getting the rest sorted first.
