  • Rock hard ride on HD springs - King Springs, 2" KTFR and KTRR HD

    So I spent the day installing the lift kit from Kings that just arrived in my 2015 GXL.
    KTFR-101HD -FRONT
    KTRR-102HD - REAR

    Thought going for the HD was a wise move as I have a dual battery and steel bullbar in the front, and considering a loaded rear when we go on trips.

    BUT, that was a very bad decision unfortunately, as the ride is ROCK hard, feel every little bump in the road - like having your tyres on 200psi.

    Will get a non HD set and replace the rear, see how that goes, then might replace the front with non HD too.

    Sharing this experience, for anyone else considering a lift kit...and the options

    What shocks did you go with?
    What normal loads do you carry?
    What are the front and rear suspension height?

    It sounds like you are too high.

      Shocks are ARCHM

      I do 80% motorway driving without any loads, except the bullbar and dual battery in the front. I'm really missing the comfy ride.

      Will order non HD springs tomorrow, keep this existing shocks, and change them over.

        King springs do often ride firmer than Dobinsons.
        But to be fair you might have some suspension that the valving is way to firm.
        Some of these brands have no idea, will be interesting to see how you go.

          HD springs are inappropriate for the rear.

          I've never heard of ARCHM. Foam cell shocks tend to feel much firmer in ride.

          What do the struts look like at the bottom spring seat? Can you take a photo?

          And what are the current suspension heights?

            I would suggest changing the front springs first to KTFR 101 HT. For the rear if you tow a camper on trips leave the rear as is. If your Prado has high ply rated MT or AT tyres run them around 30 psi.
            I run these springs in the front with steel bar/winch/dual batteries and intensity light, HD in the rear with 32 psi in mickey tompson atz p3 and its fine.
