  • Tough Dog Struts - Under damped or poor match for springs?

I have installed a set of King KTFR-101 springs with a set of Tough Dog FC404400 struts and have been using them for close to 12 months now, however it appears that the shocks are underdamped and as a result the front of the car seems to bounce far more than it should. On the slow speed carpark speedbump test, the car can bounce for a couple of seconds after hitting a bump. On the highway if there are two consecutive dips the car can become very light after the second dip (note that even on the highway with minor bumps in the surface, this rising and falling of the front end can become noticeable).

My question is, has anyone else noticed this with the Tough Dog FC404400 struts or have I just got a bad batch or matched it poorly with the springs?

You mean after it hits the speed bump, the front end will continue oscillating for a few seconds?
    Are these the adjustable ones?
It does sound like a bad batch.

After hitting hte speed bump at say 10kmh, the front will bounce a few times. When the rear goes over the same bump at the same speed there's no bounce following the initial bump. Unfortunately these aren't adjustable so will be looking to replace them with something more suitable soon.

That definitely sounds like a bad batch, I would be taking them back. I had some shocks blow while off road up north and it made the car very dangerous to drive, bouncing after hitting a bump and causing the car to loose traction and swerve at high speeds.

I have the same struts fitted with Tough Dog TDC974HH springs and have the same bounce issue, but perhaps not to the same degree (could be due to the heavier springs). I mainly notice it on big dips in the road at highway speed. The combo has been excellent though with plenty of offroad work and has never felt dangerous or out off control. I would say tough dogs valving is under damped for the prado.
