      andylo

got the car back Tuesday night, probably only driven 20kms at the moment.

The setup is Old Man Emu front struts & springs, rear shocks & airbag man airbags.

gotta say I am extremely happy with the new ride, driving over bad roads & speed humps, the difference in the suspension performance is massive. My car has done 140k, maybe the old suspension was just worn out, but still a big difference in the ride.

      love it.

        andrew3134, that's great to hear.

Did you got the whole thing done in ARB? Or you visit 2 different shops (ARB front and somewhere else for the back?)

I’ve recently made a call to Australian Ultimate Suspension here in Sydney. They were offering a range of options to upgrade the Kakadu suspension as a complete install package. There was an option to upgrade with retaining all the in cabin height adjustments too. They use their own brand shocks, Lovell’s springs and I think it was firestone air bags. Offering 25-50mm lift.
Has anyone here got this system and care to provide feedback?

I recently had my 2018 Kakadu lifted - fitted Dobinson Coils and Shocks in the front, with AirBag Man raised kit in the rear - fitted by John at Zordo's. All in-cabin heigh adjustments still work, the ride is good, no nose dipping like previous when braking hard, and I've tested it out a few times since fitting and goes good.

I used Zordo in QLD. He is the man. He sent the kit here to SA and even assisted the suspension fitters with the procedure. I have posted pics on another thread in Prado Point.

Hi guys, if anybody in the NSW South Coast area wants to lift their Kakadu 150, All Barred Up in Oak Flats is the way to go (https://www.allbarredup.com.au/). Ask for Marshall. he is a suspension specialist and has lifted 5 Kakadu's with no problems now. I went for the Outback Armor struts and shocks (adjustable), KDSS specific coils and the Airbag Man replacement airbags. I have no issues at all. Front is 810 and rear is 830. I have an Ironman bullbar, Bushskinz bash plate (which sits quite low to clear the KDSS swaybar), but no winch.

                  the whole kit includes
Bistein Silver Long Travel Monotube 2" and 3" Lift Front Strut
Bilstein Silver Long Travel Monotube Rear Shock - 0" to 3" Lift
CalOffroad Platinum Series Tapered Wire Coil Springs - 2" or 3" Lift
CalOffroad Diff Drop Kit - 1" Drop
CalOffroad Adjustable Upper Control Arm Kit
                  kakadu air bag kit 2"

Fido, I never noticed any difference between the sports and comfort setting from standard. not entirely sure what it is meant to do, so I honestly couldn't say if it still works?? Cal advised that all in cab function still work.
Anyway warning signs on the dash? are you happy with the lift?

There's a few old post re GVM upgrades and troubles with the KDSS.
Has anyone successfully done a GVM upgrade to a current model 150 Prado Kakadu?
It has KDSS and existing airbag as rear suspension. I keep on hitting a wall with the GVM upgrade and hearing lots of dramas.
I understand the existing rear factory bags will be taken out and replaced with coils (with an option to put new air bags in the rear coil)
Apparently the KDSS will still work fine but I loose the height control. Happy to loose the height control for the benefit of the GVM upgrade.
I'm based in Sydney. Any help with experience would be appreciated!

                    • To do a GVM upgrade you will need to lose the airbags and shocks and go to an engineered solution. there is a number of shops that can do them. You will lose TEMS shocks and height control.

                      • Thanks Piggy. Can anyone recommend a one stop GVM shop with engineer in (near Sydney)

                        • So I’ve got the 2021 Kakadu ordered and will need to upgrade GVM - reading all the comments is there any real solution without losing anything? Seems like there’s a few of the typical suspension brand websites who won’t do it to suit the systems in the Kakadu vehicle. Maybe I should just get the Toyota spec alloy bull bar and snorkel to then worry about weight when I get the van. Just heard it’s easier pre rego, but if I need an engineered solution, then so be it. What do you guys think?

                          • Slickdog,
As Piggy posted if you want a GVM upgrade you will lose the existing suspension features.
'18 VX, Billies with Dobinson springs, Summit bar with Narva Enhanced Optics to help my old eyes

There is no "off the shelf" GVM upgrade for the Kaka, so pre-rego is not an option. You will need to consult with an engineer for a solution, who may in turn only give you a GVM of 3250kg based on front axle 1450kg + rear axle 1800kg limits.
