    Hey leethal,

Only 25mm of droop, what strut/coil combo was that? Doesn't sound good at all!

So with your 88/King front end you've got 855-795 = 60mm of droop.

What is your ride height? ...I'm guessing somewhere around 1.2" lift? ...not sure what the standard front end height is on the 150?

When i purchaed the car it had ome nitro sport struts and bar and winch springs with nothing on the front end, pretty hard ride. I believe that im up somewhere between 35 - 40mm. My rear springs have sagged a little was sitting at 830 when put in a few years ago now down to 825.

Rob, I got some Konis installed on my 150 prado about 1 year ago, the Koni website at the time of doing my research was bit out outdated.

Below is what i got to get my car raised, have a bar/winch/duel battery setup.

          88-1712 front

I'm in Melbourne - happy for you to drop by and check it out if you like.

Thank you to everyone for the info.

One last question, if I am not raising the vehicle what is the benefit of switching from the OEM springs to Kings if they are in fact shorter but stiffer as Whitey highlighted?

              Hey,

The stiffer coils will give you better on-road handling, Prado will sit better through corners, won't nose dive as much etc.

                Hi David,

I've been quoted 88's on the front and 88's on the rear - the installer is recommending this over the 90 RAIDS as they think they are too harsh for the 150. I called the Koni distributor and they told me there is no 88 series rear for the 150, hence I'm a tad confused why the installer would suggest 88's on the rear when they are not a Koni option. I will do some more digging.

                Thanks

I had Raids on the rear of my 120. As far as I am concerned they were never too harsh. The larger diameter is for more cooling as far as I am aware

                    Hey Rob,

The reason Koni say that is because they don't realise an 80 series landcruiser shock fits the rear of a 120 and 150 series Prado.

Your installer is correct in his thinking, and the shock he is thinking of is 88-1689, 369-612mm.

I have measured these shocks to be more like 372-612mm, very close to what Koni has in their database. Keep in mind the Koni database is riddled with incorrect lengths everywhere!

They are an excellent shock for the rear of the Prado!

Regarding the RAID 90's, they give an excellent plush ride, just very limited travel (390-587mm) compared to the 88 series.

                      Hi Mark,

Thanks for the great information. So the 88 series are they RAID shocks ?

                        Hey Rob,

The 88-1712 front strut is a RAID. The rear 90-5404 shock is a RAID.

The rear 88-1689 is an 80 and 100 series shock, and it is a Heavy Track. It will fit the rear of the Prado, and has much better suspension travel than the 90 series RAID. Heavy Tracks have a smaller diameter than the RAIDS.

I have a Koni / Kings lift kit on order that should be fitted coming week. The plan is to achieve a 2" lift once settled. It's going on a 2014 Prado VX (with KDSS). The 88-1712SP2 front shock is not listed in the Koni catalogue - a new version? The shock measures 430-563mm. Perhaps the suspension buffs can chime in how open length compares to other shocks?

For the rear I have ordered the 80 series shocks mentioned by Whitey. Front and back are getting Kings lift springs with 250kg constant load and offset length for the KDSS system. This will be the first mod on an otherwise stock standard car. Might even see it lifted a bit higher until other gear gets installed?

                            Front:
                            Koni 88-1712SP2
Kings KTFR-121HHD-SP (100-250kg constant - offset for KDSS)

                            Rear:
                            Koni 88-1689
                            Kings KTRR-102HD (100-300kg constant)

I was actually impressed by the stock ride but need more ground clearance and room for tyres. Will report back how it goes..

                            Cheers

Lift kit installed - King springs and Koni Heavy Track shocks. Tad firmer than factory but not harsh. KDSS still works a treat, car stays flat around fast corners. Very happy with my choice.

                                Cheers
