Help Please KDSS

So long story short.

Snapped a Dobinsons Driver side Coil and have damaged the Strut.

Had a new spring fitted in Birdsville, but the strut has seized.

I'm now in Alice Springs.

1. Does anyone know the cost of a KDSS strut from toyota?

2. Has anyone gone the aftermarket option ?

What's involved? Does the KDSS light come on the dash when its removed?

Do I keep the original airbags and just changed out four shock two springs ?

Any info would be appreciated as I've got to go talk to the suppliers in town in the morning.

Hi mate.
Dobinson would replace the coil with out question under warranty [faulty product]
I would replace the both struts with aftermarket ones.
The KDSS will still be Ok but the electronic adjust will no longer work.
Better still replace all four shocks with Bilsteins ,
In my opinion the STD gear is barely adequate for the job
You will need a new top hat as well.

Did you hit a big hole or anything like that? Can you elaborate on how this happened? ...or did you just hear a noise and pull over?

I'm sure Dobinsons would replace it!

Happened on Birdsville Developmental rd. Not sure where exactly. Noticed it the next day after we had pulled up.

Hey Slippery,

While Dobinsons are helping you out with the coils, you should hit them up for a deal on their Monotube Remote Reservoir shocks! You might save a few bucks!

The TJM struts tend to be quite short, close to OEM open length, and they get the lift with spacers rather than extra coil free height. It's not an ideal sort of setup. Pedders I would not even look at.

If you need to replace your struts while you're stuck out there, just get the cheapest option to get you home again, then look for some decent after market gear. The Dobinsons MRR range are similar in quality to Bilsteins, except they have a remote reservoir.

Hey everyone can't thank you all enough. Ended up with the TJM 4000 Allround with Dobinsons kdss coils on front.

Whitey Dobinsons have responded really well so I'm thinking i will give it a crack for there mrr gear when i get home.

Seem to have a lean. They tried resetting kdss a few times. Jacked up left rear wheel the last time they tried. Seems to be ok. Suss it out when i get home.

Turns out OEM strut wasnt damaged. Just the top hat and the actuator case cracked.

Guess what I've got coming for free ? YEP ! Dobinsons MRR All round. Cheers for the heads up. I tell you what Dobinsons aftersales service and help has been incredible. Even though their spring did fail they have done a lot to make up for the inconvenience and damage. Very happy

Good luck getting Toyota parts

Good luck with your Toyota parts. I had to order basic things like fan belts and radiator hoses and they have to be ordered from Japan and I was told this would take 6 weeks. Hate to be stuck on the side of the road for that long. I too have the Kakadu KDSS (2016 model) and even thought it works well and gives good wheel travel, I am finding that after market stuff is much better than the Toyota rubbish. See my post on Toyota rear diff locks.
