Did you manage to get some off road testing carried out this weekend?
Hey,
Didn't make it this weekend, had to pull the struts out as my ride height needed adjusting and I wanted to grease up the threads. Definitely this coming weekend!

No you didn't miss anything.
The more you write about these the more interested I am becoming. I already have the Foam Cell Pro's and am very happy with them in there stock form, so very interested to see how much better you have made them.

Hey,
All your questions are answered here, just posted it;
Hey Mark,
Where bouts you thinking of going. Would be keen to tag along if you don't mind.
Hey dogg,
Prolly a Double Island run with a play down through Cooloola. I've got to get into some deep sand on low tire pressures, so I'll be heading for the crapiest tracks in Cooloola, any come to mind?

Hey Whitey, just wondering how your test weekend went as I'm sure we are all very keen to find out.
Regards Luke
Hey Luke,
Testing went very nicely, and the new struts performed exactly the way I hoped they would, minimal squat under acceleration going up the steepest stuff I could find up in Mt Mee, so the extra low velocity rebound in the struts works briliantly! I won't be making any more valving changes on the struts, they are perfect.
I have had to revise the rear shock valving, as I'm convinced many will not like the low velocity critical damping activating on the street, even though I have stated from the very beginning that this valving is for heavy off road work.
As such there will be two valving options for the rear, the high 90% C/ccr shocks that I'm running right now, and a softer less critically damped version of them which will be smoother on the street, but which will compromise some off that off road performance. The softer version will run around 70% C/Ccr, and will also run a slightly softer rebound/compression ratio.
This way I'm hoping to keep everyone happy. If people buy the high 90% C/ccr shocks, if they don't like it on the street they can always buy the valve stacks for the softer 70% C/Ccr version very cheaply and change the valve stacks over in the comfort of their own garage.
I know this group buy is taking a long time to get off the ground, but the valving has to be done correctly, and I have to give options that everyone will enjoy and be happy with!
Fortunately it doesn't take long to adjust the valving in the rear shocks, will be soon!

Good news Mark. Any further info on the progressive rate rear springs from Kings? How might they interact with your 2 valving choices for the rear, or not worth the effort? Neil
Could you please put me in the group buy list? For FJ Cruiser, front and rear (softer version) kit, 50mm lift, heavy front end and light rear (0-150kg).
Mark. I had a chat today with Kings Springs. FWIIW they still make OME springs and their 260lb linear rear spring is the same as OME medium. Re the progressive rate rear spring they said it is a bit softer initially than the 260 lb linear one. It is initially 190 lb [same as standard spring?] but quickly ramps up to a max rate of 320 lb at max load. I don't know how this will interact with your rear shocks or if it is a negative and or too hard to calculate with the shocks. Neil
The issue regarding T and P coils is many have complained about not getting enough lift, eg. only around 30mm or so, and coil binding in the soft sections. The soft section in the rear coils is also not well matched to the valving I'm running. Many misinterpret the way these coils work. As the soft section is coil bound in heavy vehicles, it is not active. ie, it works more like a stacker coil, you are not riding on the soft section anymore at ride height, just a big coil bound lump.
This is not a surprise, as the T and P coils were initially targeted at light weight vehicles. On that basis, I'd say if you're running an empty rear all the time and run soft valving, they'd be a comfortable combination.
For the Ironman valving in the coming group buy, it is targeted for heavy packed up off road 4wd'ing vehicles, and on that basis I highly recommend running linear coils in the 260-280lb/in range.
The issue for the rear coils is the coil bucket separation at the Ironman open length, which is around 620mm. I would suggest a 410mm minimum free height, otherwise you will have coil twist/drop out at full droop or full articulation.
The KTRR-102 at 390mm and 260lb/in is on the short side and won't lift as much as you'll need to keep a decent rear ride height, which I would suggest to keep at around 830mm.
We can order 410mm versions of the KTRR-102, but they will be custom made prices. We can already buy off the shelf C59-327 Dobinsons at 410mm and 270lb/in at standard off the shelf prices.
For the front there are plenty of options, 669lb/in Ironman coils, 660lb/in Kings, 675lb/in H&R, and for heavier front ends, 150 spec Dobinsons coils are 725lb/in. If you run higher than the 725lb/in coil, you'll be moving away from the best valving-coil rate match. If you feel you need 800lb/in coils, you can run them with the front valving, plenty have with D563/800lb/in King setups and they still drive ok.
Hope this helps!
