  • Kakadu Rear Airbag Hight sensors

    Hi Guys,

I have searched for ages to try and find some info on the rear airbag height sensors on the Kakadu.
I have found info on how to trick them with spacing them out, both sides, and info about how one side is thought to be for the airbags and one side for the headlights??

I can't find any info on:

    1. Which side sensor is for what?
    2. When I replace the rear airbags with 2" AirbagMan replacements, do I still need to trick the headlight sensor?

    Cheers

    Steve

Hi Steve I was about to order a 2018Kakadu but was told by ARB that nothing can be done to raise the suspension when you have KDSS.

Are you saying here that they can be lifted / modified?

What has happened to this site are all the tech contributors gone ???

      As for the OP

you need to adjust both sides evenly they use both for hight but not independently.

the airbag man kit comes with sensor braket spacers

follow the instructions that come with the kit and it will be fine

bleed KDSS as per procedure they need a fair amount of shaking and it will improve over the following weeks / months

ARB List a lift kit to suit KDSS prados

Ok , I Rang ARB head office yesterday and they said there is no lift kit for a 2018 Kakadu and not one coming. Will try them again....

          From there website

OME suspension kits for the Prado 150 are compatible with all variants, including KDSS equipped models.

the 2” lifted rear bag are from airbag man
          so Arb “ don’t “ make them

You need front assembled struts and rear shocks to suit KDSS just say a 2015 VX and minus the rear springs

and then buy the rear airbag man kit

            Hi,

As per above reply’s, ofcourse there are options. ARB just don’t do any for Kakadu specifically because of the airbags. But they do for the VX, so as per above, just use full front setup and just rear shocks from a VX, and replace airbags at rear with lifted Airbags (AirBag Man) or do a rear coil conversion.

              Thanks,

I have already lifted my 2010 Prado Kakadu with Bilstein Shocks and Dobinsons Springs. I have spaced the rear air bag sensors to raise the height of the rear. However there isn’t the same amount of space on the drivers side to space out. Only managed 30mm on drivers side before it fouls on the exhaust hanger rubber.... it sits level however just wasn’t sure about headlights etc. my headlights are very high now however. Drove the other night and most people passing me flashed me!

Just to clarify, you placed 30mm spacers or the lift was 30mm?
                What are your suspension measurements?

Spaced them with STD bags ?

The brackets only need 8-10mm of spacing

You can also adjust via the headlight.
but I would be fixing the rear sensors first and test drive

                    Hi AMTS,

The lift is a 2” lift and I used 30mm spaces on the sensors.

                    DSF: 830mm PSF: 825mm

                    DSR: 885mm PSR: 885mm

oh ok, so only 10mm max of spacers to ensure the correct rake?

Are those bottom of 18” to panel ?

                      All are too high

and you only want 30 odd mm of rake. They are self adjusting bags it will go back to 30mm with any load.

Yes, bottom of rim to wheel arch.
I set my struts on the highest setting (top notch)
i will change the spacers in the sensors this weekend to 10mm and re-measure.

So I had a fiddle this morning with different spacers, here are my results:

                          After 10mm spacers

                          FRONT DSF: 830mm PSF: 815mm
                          REAR:
                          Neutral: DSR: 820mm PSR: 825mm
                          High: DSR: 860mm PSR: 865mm

                          After 20mm spacers

                          FRONT DSF: 830mm PSF: 815mm
                          REAR:
                          Low: DSR: 825mm PSR: 830mm
                          Neutral: DSR: 840mm PSR: 845mm

                          High: DSR: 880mm PSR: 885mm

                          After 25mm spacers

                          FRONT DSF: 830mm PSF: 815mm
                          REAR:
                          Low: DSR: 830mm PSR: 835mm
                          Neutral: DSR: 855mm PSR: 860mm
                          High: DSR: 890mm PSR: 895mm

I have kept the 25mm spacers in for now and wanting to try bleeding the kdss to fix the lean in the front.

10mm spacer is what you need. Adjust the front down as it is way too high. You may not have enough down travel.

Ok, so it’s on the top notch on the front struts, which notch should it be on as the instructions state from bilstein to have on top notch for 2” lift? (Note they came delivered on middle notch)
