Hi everyone,
Ive enjoyed researching the numerous posts from Whitey regarding Ironman and Bilstein shock valving as i'm wanting to upgrade the stock suspension so we can do some offroad touring towing a Drifta DOT camper. We owe him a great debt for the research he has done for us. We have a 2013 facelift 150GX 5 seat which will have minimal mods - steel bullbar, rear drawers. Towball weight should be approx. 100kg from the DOT.
There will be NO - dual batteries, roofrack, highlift jacks, extra spare wheels, ovens, coffee machines etc. The 2 kids are under 6 and all up we weigh 190kg so the Prado will stay reasonably light.
I am looking at the Dobinson C59-350/2 front springs (725lb) and C59-327 rear spring (270lb) with Ironman shocks. Unfortunately I missed the group buy so I am interested in the damping settings of the standard 150spec strut - 45750FE and rear shock 45682FEC. I'm not sure if whitey ever looked at the 150 ironman strut settings as he was using the 45710FE from the 120?
Anyone know the rebound/compression rate for them? I'm hoping Ironman softened the compression and upped the rebound on the 45750FE over the 120 model 45710FE due to the much greater spring rate of the 150. Also for the 150, Ironman only match the strut to their 817lb spring so would be interesting to know - Unfortunately all the links to shock graphs etc are no longer present in the threads so I have only been able to glean some info from the discussion.
Ive tried to PM Whitey and emailing the address in the closed group buy to contact him but alas this forum software is buggy as hell and the PMs don’t seem to work.
Bilstein have a very good 150 long travel rear shock (24-217897) which will go with the C59-327 spring but I'm not keen on the front strut (24-238762) which is 120/hilux spec with the smaller lower bush and was developed for 620lb spring. Hence I'm interested in the Ironmans. If they will do the job ok with the Dobinson 725lb spring then I might be able to get them revalved later if needed and if Whitey resurfaces
Appreciate your feedback
Cheers, Brett.
