  • Fox 2.0 fitted to 2018 VX and too soft!

As the title say i purchased a full set of Fox 2.0 suspension for my 2018 VX and have had them on for around 19K Klms. Problem i'm having is they are too damn soft and feel as if it's like driving a boat around, body roll around a corner and not a firm ride like i thought it would be, hell even the wife complains lol. I have a bullbar with winch, dual batteries and draws in the back and told this to the salesperson who i ordered the kit from. I have spoke to them and they said it needs the rebound valving adjusted.

Anyone else have the Fox suspension and have an issue like this? I read the Fox were a softer ride but this is ridiculous coming from previous suspension like Ultimate suspension etc.

Any further ideas before i replace it with something else?

Real shame that the VX no longer comes with KDSS. Perhaps you can upgrade the swaybar as well as adjust rebound?

Did you lift the car as well? How much were the Fox shocks?

    Cheers
    Frank

2 inch lift, about 2k for kit.

reetzy, I too had the Ultimate Suspension before my Fox 2.0. The Ultimate's were in a Hilux though. I found the Fox to be soft in comparison, they got I bit better when I fitted larger 265/70R17 tyres. I have found the Fox to be better offroad but the Ultimate's better/stiffer onroad. Your not alone, I have just learned to live with it for now. I wanted them as they are height adjustable. That's one reason I went with Fox. The more things i added to my hilux the more i had to keep swapping and buying new springs. I got over it.

Thanks Hostile, my reasoning sounds the exact same as yours. I was thinking if i could get some stiffer springs in the front might help?

It should do. It gets expensive to do trial and error though.
It’s always recommended to get all the goodies first then set your suspension up accordingly. In saying that, I always do lift and tyres first. If you swap the springs out for stiffer ones, you should gain on road performance however it might be at a cost of off-road performance. It’s a balancing game my friend.
keep us all posted on what you decide.

Well found the issue, front springs were wrong ones for the weight. Got the right ones coming so see how this goes. Great customer service by the supplier even it being so far past purchase date.

Fingers crossed you are happy with the new ones mate. Sounds like they asked the right questions then did nothing with them, just gave you a set straight off the shelf. Probably what happened to me as well however I don’t have a bull bar or winch just yet so I’ll end up swapping my springs out any way.
keep us posted mate, it’s how we all learn.

If I may ask, where did you get the fox kit for $2k?
2010 Prado 150 GXL Diesel, Cooper AT3, ARB compressor, Catch Can, Redarc BCDC 1225, Projecta DBC150, Optima YellowTop and RedTop D34, Pioneer Backbone Platform

Its well known FOX are way too soft for heavy 4x4 use. They need serious valving changes to even get close to being able to cope. Add to the point most guys selling them seem to be good at selling the wrong ones half the time. Heavier spring will help. But Obv's alter ride quality.

17 years of off road and race experience. FOX fitted to our team Raptor which needed major valving changes to work properly. Major valving changes and tuning to the $10k of FOX fitted on our Finke Can Am. Existing experience and Dozens of hours of test time with numerous shock makers and tuners across Australia, Inc: Desert Speed labs / MCA Suspension / Reiger / Shock Therapy and Hardiman the FOX importer.

Thanks for clearing that up, was just making sure you weren’t just having a rant. Because you have made it clear that you don’t like rants. I don’t have 17 years of experience in suspension so I don’t understand that a race raptor and a family Prado are the same. Should I remove my Fox suspension and fit the factory Toyota gear back on?
                            thanks in advance.

I would have gone King shocks personally in a Prado.. And the Raptor is a street registered vehicle. Not the Trophy truck nor Can Am. (Which the latter we have just spent 2 days in the dunes re-valving said FOX gear to get it right and figure settings for various terrains and speeds.). If you haven't yet re-valved your FOX gear, I'd suggest giving Ross McNabb at Desert Speed Labs a call, he can do wonders with them. Basically he's the man when it comes to actually making them actually work right. Ross by chance is the guy that owns the Patent for ARB's famous BP51 shocks.. Designed them himself.
