  • Replacing shocks .... is it necessary to replace the shock mounts?

    Happy New Year.

I'm about to change out my originals with OEM replacement on my 2011 KDJ150 doing 135000km (83000 miles). The electronic air suspension absorbers cost an arm and a leg.

Question : should I change the front shock mounts as well?

It really depends. If the tophat (shock mounts) was tightened down proper and the rubber bushes were properly fitted, then the middle hole in the tophat is unlikely to have elongated. However, aftermarket tophats aren't that expensive and you might as well change them out rather than take the gamble that the tophat is still ok but when you take it apart, it's worn. It gets worn due to the top stud wearing against the hole. But if it did that, you'll probably hear some kind of a squeak whenever the suspension articulates.
