  • OME specs for 150

I was looking for info on OME for 150 and found this:

When I got the quote from Brighton ARB they specified 2887 and 90010 for the front, and 2899/60081 for the rear.

I have the VX D4D with bar and winch, so I would expect the 2888/90010 for the front, and the 2899/60081 for the rear would be too harsh (no towing).
    Did I miss something?

    Re: OME specs for 150

For what its worth... just finished chopping and changing springs for mine.... its a GXL with Steel ARB Bar... no winch.. and here is the trail....

    fitted front 2885/90010 (by mistake)
    rear 2898/60080

Found that the rear was super hard.... and ARB realised that they had to alter the fronts to the "bull bar"settings...so went back in to change to recommended fronts... and put lighter rears...

    fitted front 2887/90010
    rear 2889/60080

Ride was much btter... but the "bull bar" settings were way too hard in the front... such that the springs were TOPPING OUT over speed bumps... so back to change to the "no bull bar"recommended

    Fitted front 2885/90010
    rear 2889/60080

So that is about the best we are going to get i think.. waiting for it to settle and see how it goes. havnt been offroad yet...

I just called up Richmond ARB and apparently the guy was using the exact same page for recommendation.
This is a hard call, I am a bit concerned with getting the wrong combo and having to pay extra to get the correct one.
From what Masso said it looks like the standard recommendation would be too hard for me

        Re: OME specs for 150

I have the 2887's on the front as I have a steel bar and will soon have a winch and second battery.

On the rear I originally asked for the heaviest springs they have as we load our vehicle up for long trips and have roller drawers in all the time which are always 3/4 full. The ARB guy talked me out of them though and suggested the 200kg constant rate springs instead (2898) which is what I ended up going with. He said the 400kg constant rate springs are for vehicles that are heavily loaded all the time or tow heavy trailers all the time.

With the 2898 springs I have ended up with about 80mm of lift, but the drawers are not installed yet. Even when they are I think it will still sit up pretty high.

Ride quality around town is not important to us - we have our vehicle set up for touring and if that makes it a bit harsher around town then so be it. But I would say that the 400kg constant rate will be waaaay to hard for you based on what our 200kg constant rate springs are like.

It would be great if others who have OME fitted could post their experiences/views. I’m about to get them fitted on my GX D4D (no bar but second battery coming - nothing else installed which sounds a bit boring on this website) and am also a bit worried as I don’t want to end up with stiff suspension. Had that on my old 90 series and it was a pain.

At present I have factory suspension and when we set out on 1-2 month camping trips with the rear fully packed and the pod on top, it looks like we are about to do a wheel stand. However, it still feels OK when driving. Some of this driving is off road and a lot is on dirt (and none on sand!). For the remaining months of the year we are in the city with no load at all.

Westside 4x4 here in Bris has recommended the following from the ARB sheet at the top of this thread: Fronts 2885/90010 and Rear 2898/60080. I’m worried about your comments Masso that this rear spring was too hard???

Based on the recommendation from ARB, I got 2887/90010 for the front and 2898/60080 for the rear on order. The recommendation was based on a Sahara bar on the front, no winch and a tow bar on the back. I wont have a fridge in the back, but there will be a lot of camping gear and possibly a box trailer. I can handle a little "harshness" on bitumen as long as the ride is better off road.

            Cheers

              Re: OME specs for 150

I have my car booked in for the upgrade next week at Richmond ARB, with the standard recommendation for winch+bar at the front and constant 200k at the back.
Probably a bit too firm, but I guess will need to try it out first.
Has anyone dealt with Richmond ARB before? I hope their workmanship is ok?
Price was 1760 initially but they will do it for 1700

                      Re: OME specs for 150

Got mine done yesterday, with the standard recommended settings for bar+winch at front and constant 200kg at the back.

First, it feels tall! I got back my lost height (after putting the front bar and winch on), plus some more.
Second, it feels stable, no more nose-diving on braking.

The down-side is the roof cross bars now hit the warning sign in the carpark (2m) . Hopefully it will settle down a bit soon.

CJW001, I paid 1700 including wheel alignment, I have the RRP quote from Brighton ARB which was below 1800, so get your quote from a few places.

                          Re: OME specs for 150

Okay..... Got a call from the 4x4 shop just now and they stated their concerns with the suspension kit that I ordered that was recommended by an ARB representative at the 4x4 show. It turns out that the 200kg constant load kit on the rear isn't suitable for what I do, which usually involves packing the back up for camp every now and then and possibly tow a tinny. The 4x4 shop has changed the order to "medium" at no extra cost and should have it done on schedule, what great service

I guess the moral of this story is to check what the guys at ARB are recommending before getting it fitted.

                            Re: OME specs for 150

I think I am sure about my front (2888 for winch and bar), but still checking out the back (2898 for constant 200kg)
I have a box in the cargo bay with the tow bar hitch in it (receiver has the bike carrier), and notice that with the new OME I can hear the rattle more often now when going over bumps (city driving, no loads). Definitely firmer than original suspension.
I guess with the fridge and food (35kg?), four bikes (60kg), gears (70kg?), water (20kg), I will get to the 200kg mark very quicky.
It is not too bad driving without loads.

On a different note, I have a call from ARB asking if I want to keep the old suspensions (2 boxes, 10-15kg each); Is it worth keeping these to restore the car back to original when selling?
