  • Mud terrain tyres for GX

I currently have BFG LT245/70R17 M/T tyres fitted. Unfortunately I damaged a tyre recently on a sharp rock at Sundown NP.
There are currently no replacements available in Australia. Michelin (BFG) are unable to advise ETA of the next shipment, however did say there are large back orders.
I am considering cutting my losses and changing to a different tyre (e.g Cooper STT, but still waiting to hear availability of these).
Has anyone else had better luck finding mud terrain tyres for a GX?

If you do change your tyres, I would be interested in buying the BFG M/Ts. I currently run a set on my 150 and could use them as spares or on the camper.

Will keep you posted. Currently no Cooper STTs available either. Issue is the rim diameter (17 inch) and width (only 6.5 inch). So tyre size must be 245/70R17 or equivalent. The GXL has 7.5 inch width rims, and VX has 18 inch diameter (even worse).

Cheers mate. Think I'll sweat on it for a while. Luckily I had 2 spares, so am OK for now. The one with a cut side wall is still legal (just) according to Bob Jane. And no cords cut.
Issue is I am planning a big trip to SA next year (down the Strezlecki to the Flinders then Gawler ranges) and I want 2 good spares. If BFG get their act together I'll stay with them, otherwise I will change the lot.

What did you finally do with your tyres?
Did the BFGs finally become available?

I badly punctured a Grandcrap tyre in the Flinders ranges in September and immediately upgraded the wheels and tyres. I ended up with speedy avalanche rims (7.5 inch) and Cooper ST Maxx 265/70/R17 and don't regret the investment. So I have 5 grandtreks (one of which is a dodgy spare). Wanna buy them

Still have your old rims? What size? 6.5 or 7.5?
