150 GXL wheels and tyres - are they worth keeping?

I got a set of new wheels and tyres for the 150. I had planned on trading in or selling the Dunlop tyres but found out they are worth about $80 a pop so might as well keep them, and I decided to keep the original GXL rims and Dunlop tyres as a set as my plans are to build up a camper trailer. I could use the GXL rims and Dunlops on the trailer.

Does anyone know if the GXL wheels and Dunlop tyres are worth much second hand? If so it might be worth my while to sell them on and put the cash in my pocket then get matching wheels and cheap tyres (probably someone else's factory Grandtrek's) for the camper when it is built in 12-18 months time.

I sold my rims for $150 each and the tyres for $100 each. Sold them through this site.

If you are going to sell there are a lot of people who would like one as a second spare for big trips. Where are you from? If anywhere near Melbourne I will take a rim (with our without the tyre).

Thanks The Roo, I wanted to go ST Maxx's but they don't do them in 265/65 17's and the slightly larger tyre means they don't fit under the spare cover (probably why there are so many spare tyre covers on eBay) and in QLD they aren't legal as they are more than 15mm larger in the diameter. BFG's are hard to get and not the best tyres around though they are OK for the money.

The choices for me were Cooper AT3's - these have an 80,000km wear guarantee, and Yokahama Geolander AT's which have a puncture/damage guarantee (free repairs in first 50% of tyre wear, replacement with brand new tyre if not repairable in first 25%, pro rata percentage of replacement cost in 25-50%).

I won't do 80,000km in 5 years (tyres should be replaced at 5 years old no matter their condition) so I went a set of 4 Geo's on new rims as they were $50 a tyre cheaper and have a guarantee against damage/punctures.

I kept the GXL alloys and dunlops for 2 spares and a trailer, but then got to thinking about matching up the trailer and Prado wheels. After doing the maths (new wheels, tyre removal and refitting to new wheel, balancing) it's only economical for me to sell on the GXL rims and replace them with matching wheels at $350 a pop or $450 with tyres which is probably a bit pricey for most

Quite a number of PP members have the 265/70R17 and they fit under the cover.

Wow, the factory GXL wheels new are worth over $1000 each! Zerosecta on here sold his second hand ones for between $450 and $550 each! He said they sold very quickly on eBay. Sounds like someone got a VERY good deal at $150 each.
