The 95 series I posted a pic of above got 83,000kms from the factory Grandcraps but that was pretty much all bitumen driving with the odd dirt or gravel road thrown in.

The fronts were scrubbed on the sides and definitely needed replacing. The tyre place said the rears were still OK but I replaced them anyway, wasn't going to mix 2 different tread patterns on a permanent basis.

ETA: Post #9 in this thread has pics of the old tyres on the 95 series if you're really curious :-
      http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...What-to-choose

Was either 83,000K or 85,000K but either way they lasted well. I wonder if I'll get the same out of these D697s?

OK so I re-measured the D697s today and got the following :-

Front Passenger: 10mm (inner) 9mm (outer)
Front Driver: 10mm (inner) 9mm (outer)
Rear Passenger: 10mm (inner) 8mm (outer)
Rear Driver: 10mm (inner) 9mm (outer)

My outer measurement was taken off the blocks on the outside edge, inner from the next row in.

So it's not as bad as I thought, must have been my eyesight playing tricks on me last time I measured. Now the outer measurement on the rear passenger side could just be a slip of the pencil but I did notice the pressure was lower on that tyre than the others last time I filled up and checked them. I normally run them at 38 PSI for highway driving.

I'm not sure why the outer measurements are 1mm different to the inner measurements for the other 3 tyres other than we do have to navigate lots of roundabouts where we live, sometime we drive over the edge of them if they're not too high but not at speed. We also have lots of speedhumps in our area.

The tyres have done 7410kms since they were fitted in November 2012.

Still don't know what they should be from new, waiting for Bridgestone to reply.

Bridgestone have advised the tread depth on this size D697 is 10.6 mm when new.

Just picked up a set of cooper zeon Ltz 285 60 18 off ebay for $250 each plus $100 for postage! Pretty happy about that considering they cost $445 at tyrepower!

No they aren't! But they are stronger than the at3 in 265/60-18. They have an extra load rating on them also.

No they fit well apparently. Kakadaz had them on his Kakadu and they looked great!

FALKEN WILD PEAK A/T 265/65R18 112S $210/tyre < Very Cheap but is it any good?

I welcome any comments on these products (or any others you may suggest) that would fit the standard rims and to the A/T i am looking for...
or if you know where i can get a good deal/advise in Melbourne about this!

Finally some decent tyres for the Kakadu! Without having to swap my rims!

Don't forget the tyres need to meet the minimum speed and load rating as per the tyre placard. That means they need to have a maximum load rating of not less than 1060kg or a Load Index of 110 and speed category of H.

I have the Bridgestone D697 LT in the 265/60/R18 size, best price I've had for those is $370 fitted and balanced. I originally had the BFG 265/65/R18 but they were deemed to be oversized under Victorian rules so the dealer swapped them over to the D697s at my request.

So i have added the load/speed chart for everyone - and to add i belive the 265/65/R18 are now legal in VIC... due to the law changes... so BF Goodrich is in the lead??

Well the problem is that everyone myself and the dealer spoke to at VicRoads said the BFGs were still oversized and this was after the rule changes came into effect. There's more than one document involved and you have to read them all to get the full picture. IIRC the rules still say no more than a 15mm change and the BFGs are over that.

on another point... i have just seen the new Good Year Wranglers.... geez they are a a great looking 17in AT tyre... but that would mean changin my rims.... !! what to do!!

Also speaking to yet another tyre mob in my area they suggested the General Grabbers... i havent even hear of them....? Any good? they come in 18inch as well.... ??
