  • Anyone ordered from Tirerack.com?

I am thinking about ordering a set of 5 x BFG AT's 265/70/17's from Tirerack.com. Just wondering if anyone has dealt with them before and how smoothly did your purchase go?

Are the tires they sell identical to the ones we would purchase in Aus?

    hi rwo,

i tried them 2 years when i bought my tire preasure monitor system, idn't had any issues with them.
as for the us tires , i did got BF from states but not from them, and i think they would be the same

My recent quote from them. It is not worth it unless you have someone you know bringing in a container with spare space.

      LT265/70R17 BF Goodrich MT TA KM2 RWL E at $273.00 each (3) $819.00
Shipping to Australia: $333.15 (FEDEX Economy 3-6 business days)
      Total delivered: $1152.15

I suppose you have to add gst on too but isn't that still cheap? Usually they're... ~$550each?

Imports under $1000 don't have GST applied, the cost of frieght is not included in the $1000

A full set though: 5or6 will be over the $1000.

I thought the MT's were a lot more expensive than AT's.

treadepot.com have the above mentioned Goodrich MT's for $235 each, I'm not sure about shipping, you would have to contact them.

I bought 5 x Cooper AT3's from them (treadepot) late last year and used a US based shopping site to send them over, cost me $400 per tyre delivered to my door, the equivalent Goodrich's here were $530 each, if I could get them.

I don't know if they're identical, I expect there is an Australian compliance or ADR number missing, but I haven't bothered to look.

I would do it again and I reckon I could save a heap on freight next time.

I think i've linked it before.

This mob regularly ship from US to Australia and sell space in their containers. You just have to be prepared to wait.

Just be wary of the rating's etc and make sure they have the right numbers and letter for australia otherwise you could be done over by an insurance company if the worst was to happen and they do not match Aussie standards.

I think they should be ok but i read this somewhere and someone didnt have the right rating's.

Another thing i came across when looking at importing tyres was that quarantine could get involved. Apparantly there is risk of larvae growing in the moisture that forms on the inside of the tyre. So long as you're not in a hurry for your tyres, no big deal, but undoubtedly there would be another cost.
Is there anyone that has imported tyres and actually been held up by quarantine?

I've bought tyres from Tirerack last year. Car tyres, not 4wd tyres.

Bought semi slick tyres for the toy car. Tyre sizes were 225/45 17 and 255/40 17. Savings were over $1k on the closest available equivalent. Dunlop Z1 Star Spec is not available here. Great service and well worth the trouble.

I've also bought tyres for the VW from St George tyres in Sydney (Conti CS2's) for solid savings over local. Always check ratings to make sure you are buying the tyres you think you are.

How did you get the tyres shipped to you after buying off Tirerack? How much did it cost you?

Tirerack organize the shipping. For my order of 4 tyres, shipping was about $270
