  • Cooper AT3 275/65 R18 120 rating

    Cooper AT3 275/65 R18 120 light Truck rating.

    A couple of questions answered.

    1/ They dont rub.
A picture is attached showing the sway bar area where there is no rubbing.
2011 VX with no lift or suspension replacement.

    2/They are available Australia wide.
See below a reply from Cooper head office and a quote from Tyrepower Penrith.

3/ They gives a very correct speedo reading according to a GPS over a fair distance on the M4.
In fact the reading is spot on.

I may add that my Prado is noticeably higher, both in the driving feel and getting in and out.
And Fuel usage seems to have increased even accounting for the further distance traveled.

Great information. I had been wondering how much these tyres might be selling for. What do you mean fuel economy has increased? Is it more efficient?

Do you have any pictures showing how they fill out the wheel arch?

Thanks Mike, I will post a picture soon showing the whole wheel arch.
They are noticeably bigger than the OEMs and fill out the wheel arch nice.
Fuel usage has increased I meant to say. From an average of 8.2L/100 OEMs up to high 8s

Thanks ML, Yes the road noise has increased. It really isn't objectionable, its mild at best.
There is a handling loss too. I'm already used to it.

The OEMs are a very good tyre but they just were not tough enough.
We plan to cross the simpson and wanted a little extra foot print and height.

Does the wheel still fit on the back door with these tyres fitted?

I kept the original spare as it hasn't seen any driving.
            Thanks.

                  Hello Brettstar,

Keeping the original spare is a false economy, especially if you intend going any where serious. The Simpson is serious. The spare wheel must be the same diameter as the road wheels to minimise the risk to the trandmission. Look at two spares for the Simpson.

                  regards

I asked about fitting bigger tyres to my 150 VX (as I wanted the LT and not the pax construction), and was told that legally only a 15mm increase from the OEM diameter o 776mm was allowed. I just wonder if there would be insurance issues?

I'm up for my first set of tyres, and can't believe it's this hard to find offroaders just because of the 18's ;-/

I've been calling around Logan to get prices on a set of these. I called Goodyear at Springwood first and they quoted $520 per tyre fitted and balanced. Next i called Keith 4 Wheels at Underwood and they quoted $522 per tyre fitted and balanced. Then i .called Pauls Tyres at Jimboomba and they told me that list price on these tyres is $698 per tyre with a minimum sell of $522 per tyre.

These same tyres are being sold on Tread Depot for US$221. My blood is boiling right now. If i didn't have a nail sticking out of my tyre, I'd be buying from overseas. What a ripoff.

                      SERENITY NOW!

Hey Mike (or anyone else) what did you guys end up paying in the end? Considering a 2nd hand VX or close to new GXL, with all these difficult tyre issues tempted to go with the GXL..

I paid $520 per tyre which included fitting and balancing. I think the wheel alignment was another $30. Total bill was just over $2600. TireRack.com quoted me $100 per tyre for shipping to Australia. Unfortunately they don't sell Cooper Tires anymore.

If you prefer the VX over the GXL then don't be put off by wheel size. There are plenty of tyres around that fit the 18" inch wheels. You've just got to be prepared to pay the extra money.

My only motivation for getting the VX was the KDSS. If you're not bothered about that, I'd recommend you go the GXL, but this discussion is covered in another thread.

From memory I was quoted $450 fitted for a Bridgestone Dueler D697LT in the 265/60/R18 size for my Kakadu.
