  • Coopers A/T 3 and S/T Maxx

    Hello

I have a prado 140 GXL and am wanting to fit either the Coopers A/T 3 and S/T Maxx, still under-sided which ones.

However i have a few questions what size should i fit to my 150 GXL prado so there is no rubbing when wheel lock etc, i do not have a lift at the moment and wont for a while.

Also will this size still fit in the spear wheel cover

If anyone has any advice regarding choice for A/T 3 or S/T Maxx let me know

    Thank you for your help

    Brent

Myself and a few others running ST MAXX's... no problems at all with mounting spare in 265/70/17. Slightly noisy over normal AT's, very happy with performance off road.

        Thanks VX Cruiser

did you have on your 150 before the 2 inch lift? I dont have a lift yet so want to know if they will rub without one?

        what are your thoughts?

I did mate, yep... no rubbing at all in my experience. I didn't go any 'hard off roading' until i got the lift though... why would you want to without a lift anyway. I would actually go bigger next time I reckon

            Hello brent.nassi,

I have 265 70 - 17 Cooper st maxx on 8 *17 inch rims with +10mm offset without a lift. These do not rub anywhere unless I have 20 mm of hard mud under the guards.

Mine do not fit under the spare cover but with 8 inch width and 10 mm offset no tyres would fit.

I like them, not too noisy and good grip at all times, bitumen and dirt.

            regards

            Ross

I have the 265/70 st maxix No problems before or after lift. Great tyres.... have served well from outback dunes and rock through to the Vic high country. Not too noisy but not exactly whisper quiet.

Very happy with the AT3's so far - marginally noisier than the Pirelli Scorpions to my worn out ears. Mrs Soz hasn't said boo about them so I'm guessing I am trying too hard to hear something that isn't there.
                Cheers,
                Soz

Do you guys mind sharing what you paid for your St-Maxx and AT3s?

I was quoted - $385 for the STmaxx.

I paid something like $500-$510 per tyre for AT3 in LT275/65R18, fitted and balanced. Most places i called were asking around $530. Very happy with the AT3 so far.

Just fitted 4 new AT3's (265/65R17) - total cost was $1360 fitted balanced and wheel alignment. So $340 per tyre. This was a discounted price as I bought the car originally from the guy who owned the tyre shop, but having said that I also got a quote from the local Goodyear Autocare in Burleigh and the total cost for same tyres was around the $1490 mark. We would do 70% road and sand and 30% dirt and mud hence why we went for the AT3's. But I would have been just as happy with the ST-Maxx. We had Cooper CTS on previously and I haven't noticed any increase in road noise with the AT3's.

                        Hello SU888,

I paid $395 each for St maxx. that was for 6 of them from Diamond Creek Tyrepower Vic.

                        regards

Thanks guys, i'm in two mind sets at the moment. Either AT/3 for a ripper price of $275 ea (last set), or ST maxx for around $385 each.

I had St-Maxx on my hilux and they were impressive both on and off the road. (suprised a few patrol boys on a couple of outings).

Video doesn't do justice of how steep/rutted the track really was.

Far out, I just fitted 5 x 265 70R17 S/T Maxxs and the best price I could get here in WA was $405 a tyre, most places would just quote retail of about $435 ea even for 5.
Can't fit the spare wheel cover over the spare, so be prepared for that, looks much better now anyway and I rotate all 5 tyres every 5000k anyway so the spare won't go off hanging in the breeze.
Only other issue I found was that the rubbish tidy I bought to go over the spare when traveling doesn't fit as the tyre is still just touching the door, so will need to space that off a bit.
They are quite a bit heavier than the old Grandtreks so I am starting to think I may need to start saving my shackles for a wheel carrier to get that weight off the door hinges as well.
                            Kev,

Have those of you in NSW (with our +15mm diameter tyre limit) got engineering certificates for your S/TMaxx's? If so, where did you get it done, how much did it cost, and did they actually do the full "double lane change" test?
