+1 on that. Great off road, but pretty ordinary on wet bitumen.

I had a big moment on a wet corner last winter, not going particularly fast when out of the blue both ends let go and just started to spin. Managed to catch it but I doubt that my wife would have. They were about half worn when it happened, last a long time but seem to get worse with age.

Will be looking at other options.

Regardless of brand, if you get 4 punctures on a Simmo crossing your either desperately unlucky or doing something wrong.

Dunno. Inferior tyre? The punctures were all on rocky tracks or dirt roads. His pressures were a bit high to start with but that's all I could pin point.

        Hi Germinator,
Not sure if you've gone ahead and bought these yet?
If not I'm having a set of the KM2's put on tomorrow at Bob Jane. (265/70/R17) for $289 a tyre.
Pretty sure the AT's were a few dollars cheaper. Might be worth a phone call.

I REALLY like the look of the new Mickey Thompson P3. I have a set of STZs that will be coming off tomorrow with 100,000km on them.
Have been a really good tyre. The only place they are underdone is in mud. I suspect the P3 would be a better all round tyre. Can't go past the price I'm getting the KM2s for though. $125 less per tyre than the best quote on the P3s!! ie $625 less for the 5.

        cheers,

Just drove 360 km today in pouring rain on my BFGs, the back 2 of which are about to be replaced at 55000 hard kms. As usual, absolutely NO ISSUES with them in the wet. By the way, over 3 sets I have never had to get them rebalanced after the initial balance. Back 2 are down to about 3mm and would last another year but I am off on a trip and old worn tyres are a recipe for trouble so 2 new BFGs coming up!

I know this is a bit after the act but I have just replaced my BFG's at 89000km. Would probably have gotten much more if I didn't let the insides worn down due to wheel alignment issues. No flat tyres during this time and no issues in the wet. Replaced with the same. A wonderful tyre in my opinion.

On my 10 th set ( approx) M/T and A/T on different cars 60, 80 and two 120 series. Our first 120 had harder springs in the front and more lift. It under steered terribly in the wet with any more than 50000 km on the A/T's. On our VX we have slightly softer and 10 mm lower than the first car and the under steer in the wet has gone.
If your BFG tyres are bad in the wet have a look at pressures and spring rates before you blame the tyres.

The best all rounder by far. IMO. But plenty will disagree, that's life :-)

Worst thing is the way they chip & chop up badly, but still drive great, quiet, capable & no punctures.
I recently looked at all the options, went for these again. Best all rounder, great on rough Rocky tracks. Slippery in mud. No problem at all in the wet. Imo they chip up, because they are good at gripping or trying. Other tyres just spin str8 over, so they dont chip.

Just had my first set on the 150 fitted after having a good run with them on my 95. $290 a corner fitted and balanced. So far so good. Now to get them dirty.

I've had to replace my 2 rear tyres while I'm here in Alice Springs, after copping some sidewall damage from the Cordillo Downs track, and I probably chewed the crap out of them trying to drag the car and camper trailer out of a sand bog in the Plenty River crossing on the Plenty Highway (trying to get under a shady tree for a lunch stop). They had about 53,000 kms on them and still out 6mm tread left on them.
The only place in town that had them was Tyrepower, who happily charged me $395 each plus a disposal fee.

Get the best price you can then take it to bob jane. They'll match it and do them a bit cheaper. I got 5 265/70r17's for a little over $1500 whith a wheel alignment about 3 months ago. This isn't a plug for bob jane, they were the dearest place I got a quote from so it was worth it just to see the look on the guys face when he had to match and beat the price I had. He didn't look real happy :-)

The road less travelled is definitely the best road to be on

Bob Jane Ipswich and they had stock available so it was worth the drive. I had prices from $380 to $290. BJ Ipswich was $290 straight up yet other branches were much dearer. Make sure you ring around.

Are they made in USA? I have heard in the past that Bob Jane sells a 'cheaper' parallel import made in another country. But don't know if this is right or not. My source told me the USA made ones have the white lettering. Maybe others here will know if this is correct.
