  • 17" inch Lenso wheels for KDSS models Kakadu / VX?

After a lot of research, it appears that the only way to fit LT tyres to KDSS models is to change rims. That is because 18' LT tyres are bigger than the passenger construction and most likely will rub on the Upper Control arm (e.g. Cooper AT3 in 275/65R18), so changing to 17inch wheel with less positive offset is the only way and will also add some extra sidewall to the setup.

Talked to a big tyre store today, they suggested Lenso Intimidator with 12mm positive offset. The price is right ($175 each) The changes still comply with the law (max +25mm for tracks, no sticking out the guards). Want to fit 265/70R17 which is also a legal increase in diameter (776 vs 808mm).

    Questions:
has anyone experience with the Lenso rims, which is 17x9 wide, in terms of rubbing or durability?
Alternatives to those wheels? (Dick Cepek torques looks good, but +6mm offset is pushing over the legal limit). FJ cruiser wheels would be an option. Don't like the look for the Prado, unless you take the wheels of the 2014 FJ Cruiser

That's not correct, My D697s are LT in the 265/60/R18 size (the standard size for the Kakadu) and I have not had to change rims. Have not noticed any rubbing on the UCAs but I do have a lift.

Yet not a great range to choose from. I'd rather have a tyre at the aggressive end of the A/T spectrum, e.g. like a 50/50 bitumen/offroad, also the 265/70 gives you approx 25mm more sidewall.

Thank you for the list. I agree a Cooper AT3 or BFG in LT is an alternative to swapping wheels. Although the tyre issue is interesting the thread was meant to be more about the 17 inch rims:
has anyone experience with the Lenso rims, which is 17" and 9" wide, in terms of rubbing or durability?
Does someone know Alternatives to the Lensos with an offset between 10 and 15mm?

I am looking at getting 17 x 9 +12 rims for my GX but I was hoping to put 275/70's or 265/70's BFG AT's.
but it seems a few popular AT tyres like the BFG's, Coopers and Mickey T's don't recommend rims wider than 8.5" with 265/70's or 275/70's.
Can anybody shed some light on this? does the higher sidewall on the wider rim have issues with strength or the bead breaking?

Good question, would be interested too to know? My guess is that the risk is higher to role the tyre off the rim with wider wheels, but I don't know if this to a relevant degree or merely an academic exercise?
