  • Tyres and how to look after them..... interesting Video clip

Found this little video and thought it was interesting to watch and get a better understanding on how to look after your tyres, especially when touring and u lower and re-inflate your tyres.... Might explain a few things that I've come across on our recent trip.....

Thanks for sharing. Found that interesting especially the leaking between casing and liner

Now that's a man with a vested interest in tyre sales.
I agree with the stuff about pressures but his bias seems obvious relating to all damage needing immediate inspection and probable replacement.

Have used the internal mushroom repair before, but when my wife took her Corolla in for a nail hole repair a few years back (don't remember the company now, was in southern Sydney) the repairer told her the mushroom repairs were no longer used, as they weren't as good as the external push-in plugs (I guess it also meant he did not have to remove the tyre from the rim, which means he could not see any internal damage should there be any)

Have seen a couple of tyres with small holes on the outside, but on the inside there were big holes where the steel belt had punched though - you would not see that if you did not take the tyre off the rim.

What do you do when you are on a road that keeps changing from rough as guts dirt to bitumen every 10 or 20k like the road from Broken Hill to Tibooburra? Or across the Tanami where after hundreds of kms of dirt you come across a couple of stretches of bitumen in the middle of nowhere?

Its probably all good info but in the real world a bit more flexibility might be needed.

          Cheers Andrew

I see merit in his recommendations. I've been very lucky over the years in not having many flats ( touch wood ). I did have a pluged tyre disintergrade on me once at Hwy speed, NOT GOOD. I recommend that any pluged tyre be relocated to the rear, as I'm convinced that was the only thing that saved me from a roll-over.

Thanks for putting that up. Good info there and yeah the guy is a tyre rep so a couple of grains of salt with his stuff.

In the end your tyres are what hold you to the road and nothing we have on the trucks above is of any use if they fail. Remember we usually have the little people in the truck with us when we go play.

I would guess when there are those situation where there is the change between the dirt and paved roads, speed might be the answer to keeping the damage down.

              Good info from everyone...thank you
