  • After Market Rims

Just had an intersting conversation with a Tyre and Rim retailer here in Melbourne. I'm after a set of steelies for the 150 and the guy pretty much talked me out of buying any aftermarket rims, alloys included, for the Prado. Something to do with no "locating ring", and that balancing would be a b!tch.

Has anyone had any issues with balancing after markets rims on the 150? I thought the 139.7 centre bore hole fitted straight over the hub....am I missing something else here?

    Cheers

139.7 is the PCD (pitch circle diameter, need to stop using engineer acronym speak) of the 6 bolts that hold the rim on. The centre bore is 106. Typically Toyotas use the centre bore to take the vertical load and the wheel nuts (flange type) transmit the torque but there are plenty of people who have used tapered wheels and wheel nuts and no centre bore without issues. Nissan rely on the wheel nuts for everything as do Mitsubishis from memory.

Hi, you should have no problems with good aftermarket rims. I got mine thru Don Cornell in sydney with BFG tyres fitted.
They recomended the king rims as they have less problems than the cheepest ones.
the wheel nuts need changing as the toyo mag nuts dont fit.
the rims locate on the nuts with the taper, the bore is a clearance fit incase you fit the centre caps.
      tyres were $285
      Black rims $100
      Nuts $1 each
free delivery inc fitting and balancing to any main city depot

no problems at all, just did adelaide mt dare simpson to birdsville and back.

i got 3 quotes and all suggested the king rims ..
      cheers

I own a 150.. I also sell wheels and tyres..
Have done many wheel/tyre changes with no issues..
in fact some new wheels tyre combo's for the 150 are that good they balance up better than new.. with no weights required at all..
plus we measure road force variation when we balance so I can assure you its not an issue..

as reddevil just said the king wheels are good we have never had an issue with them.. the Fuel Offroad are good also

I would suggest you call someone else

i have always been told the wheel nuts hold them on and the centre of the wheel and hub should take the load of the vehicles load.

My brother experienced incorrect wheel to hub fitting.
4 out of the 6 studs broke on 1 wheel.
He found the adaptor ring supplied by the wheel / tyre shop had slid up inside the center of the wheel and was not taking any load from the hub.

          lost his nuts ops:
but it could of been worse.
