  • Replacement tyres - 2013 Prado

Hey guys/gals recommendations for replacement tyres for my 2013 Prado GXL - got 53k out of original but only did highway - probably be towing caravan for year or two but little offroad so.....

A can of worms. I use BFG and have for 20 year and don't plan to change BUT I have been on quite a few trips with people who had Cooper AT3s which are more highway oriented and NONE of them has had any tyre trouble at all on the dodgy outback roads we have covered. A good compromise?

Based of your 53k of highway history, I'd be looking at Pirelli Scorpion ATR's. If your habits change though, so will your tyre choice. If you feel like reading, tyre choice has been much discussed but it comes down to what YOU will be using them for.

I fitted Pirelli Scorpion ATR LT tyres in the 265/70R17 size on my 2014 Toyota Prado VX and they are brilliant on-road and off-road. Very good road handling/good grip. Based on your car usage I think they would be a great option. Scorpion ATR in 275/65R17 size would also be great if you don't need LT construction.

My 2014 VX has 265/60/R18. Do they have different size wheel options?

I had same 265/60/R18 when new and changed myself post purchase to 17 inch rims (from Toyota FJ Cruiser) then fitted 265/70R17 size tyres. Dealer was OK to change for me during purchase but price was much higher than doing myself.

When you get your first replacement tyres it will probably pay for itself. I recently replaced my 18"s and they are currently a ship load dearer than 17's in any brand

I'm getting some KO2 fitted tomorrow @ $320 ea, ripper deal i thought. Just hope the KO2 are as good as the hype makes them out to be - was planning on getting ST Maxx but they are too expensive in comparison to justify the extra cost.

I've only done 1200 k's on my KO2's so far, but definitely a worthwhile investment. You won't be disappointed.
