  • jacking up prado 150

    Has anyone else used a floor/ trolley jack to lift up the front end of their prado 150 to change tyres? I'm really struggling to find a safe and strong point to lift from that my jack can reach. Would hate to try to do it off road on any ground that wasn't flat using the OME jack supplied. Really interested in advice /opinions.

      So, Not as bad as I first thought once I reminded myself this isn't my old vehicle. I was used to lifting it from under the bottom wishbone assembly. I had to use a couple of sturdy hardwood blocks on the plate of my jack and lifted the chassis rail like recommended in the manual. I did this to get the height to lift the tyre free of the ground. Got some pics but struggling to upload them atm due to the wonderful internet connection I have.

ID:	653663I gave that a try but the jack plate was only resting on an edge. Use a block of timber but it just wanted to slip out. It didn't look at all safe. I will give it another try.

          I have changed a front tyre by the side of a dirt road and I place under the bottle jack a ply jacking plate to stop the jack sinking into the dirt and to stabise it aswell.
          I don't use blocks of wood when using the trolley jack as there's too much of chance of the wood block slipping and dropping the vehicle,you should be alright just jacking it up without the blocks as you wont do any damage just make sure the jack is stabilised and isn't going to slide out under load or better yet
          put a couple of axle stands underneath to support the vehicle weight.
          Fitted so far:-Toyota Alloy bar,Redarc BDCD1220 battery managment system and dual power outlet,tracklander full length rack and ladder,Milford cargo barrier,Kaon transmission guard, UVP& Lower Shock mount Guards,Dobinson/Bilstein suspension,Toyota Bonnet and headlight guards,39ltr engel and an opposite lock stubby holder (from the old '80' series),Polyair Airbags,Pradopoint sticker,Gonefishin' custom Sidesteps.

            Sorry, my comment was for using the factory jack under the LCA. A trolley jack would need to go under the transmission cross member and you'll need a high lift version. I'm guessing the one pictured isn't suited for 4wds. I have one the same brand and it lifts to 495mm or somewhere there.

              I have a hi-lift jack and it came with a base plate, I put my Toyo jack onto that to save me winding the jack up so far. It also give a nice wide base onto the ground, I just need to scrape a level patch of dirt/gravel and I am good.

              Tested in the field
