Yes at least for the GXL.
The Dunlop web site doesn't show 265/65R17 as an available size for AT20.
      "Available Sizes

So are these factory fitted ones different in some way. Are they really as bad as some people are suggesting? I'm new to 4wd so have no experience to go by.

It's a badly written website. The AT20s are used and available widely from tyre shops for the Prado and Pajero.
The pic on the website is also wrong. That is the tread pattern on the AT22.

They are the same tyre whether it came from the Toyota factory with the Prado or purchased from tyre shops.
A few people have had great mileage from the AT20s, but that was mainly highway driving.
It is also good enough in sand and graded dirt roads. But once you get into rocky tracks, the thin-ness of the tread and sidewalls tend to give way to sharp rocks.

You would be better off with an all-terrain tyre if you are venturing off-road. And if you plan on going further into more serious 4WDriving, then you'll need tougher tyres like the mud terrains.

            Hi
Changeover for a $350 - $380 tyre is not too bad. The other side is blow up a Dunlop and you will have to pay $300 to replace it and your still back where you started with road tyres on a 4WD.

              Re: New tyre questions

My mistake! I emailed Jax in Caulfield back to clarify and it was $200 per tyre that he was willing to give me for the Dunlop's from the new Prado (not charge me $200 per new tyre). His changeover price is $122 per tyre. So all up I will need to pay $610 for the 5 BFG's.
This now seems pretty good to me. Can anyone suggest a better deal elsewhere?

                Re: New tyre questions

Sounds like a great deal. Think i paid about $600 change over for my coopers for the 120 in 2008. Coopers where about $290 each at that stage.

                  Re: New tyre questions

I think it's a good price. Which BFG AT's are you getting? Passenger or LT construction? If LT, then $322 per tyre is a very good price.
If selling on ebay, you may not reach $200 per tyre. They are normally $285 fitted, balanced from a tyre shop.

The other option is to stick with the AT20 for now and run them down. If you're not doing too much off-road, why waste good rubber. What sort of driving are you intending to do? If not much, then you've saved yourself $425 ($85 x 5). But to others, that is money well spent. So it depends on your circumstances.

                    Re: New tyre questions

Getting the L/T construction. Probably won't do a hell of a lot of off road but want the performance there for when I do. Your point re saving the $425 is valid. We won't be doing huge km's so a set of tyres will last us 5 years which works out to $85 per year to have reasonably good off road tyres.

                      Re: New tyre questions

Only problem with sticking with the Dunlops is if you start wrecking tyres you really need to replace with the same again (AWD), may become a never ending cycle! So when you have had enough and do upgrade you may still be stuck giving away relatively new Grandtreks.

As with everything comes back to your best guess of your intended use. Good Luck!

                        Re: New tyre questions

Bridgestone tyre centre in Preston have quoted $900 to do the change over. So there you go , there IS a major difference of a few hundred dollars between shops!

Does anyone have any feedback or comments for those that have fitted Cooper ST's to their 150 GXL? I'm sorting out some final details for a new 150 GXL and looking at the Cooper website, the ST 265/70R17's are an appropriate replacement. And looking at another thread here, they'll fit within the spare well cover.

I've had ST's on my 2007 Hilux SR5 since new (done 60km now) and they've been excellent. Hence I'd probably go the ST's again for the Prado when new. When I bought my Hilux new, I drove it out of the Toyota dealership and 2kms down the road to a Tyrepower dealer and they gave me an excellent trade-in for the factory tyres (I can't remember the changeover price now).

(currently own a July2007 Hilux SR5 TD d/cab but about to change to a 120 GXL)

I have just put Cooper st 275/70/17 on my prado they seem to slightly noisier than bfg but I think tread pattern is slightly mOre aggressive than bfg. Over all generally happy though

Pick up my truck next month, i got a price for change over for Mickey thompsons (5x) LT265/70R17 in the ATZ 5 Rib for $1325 from Fourbys at Moorooka.
Does this sound right for the price? Also being american does it depend on how the aus dollar compares to the Greenback?
