Will GXL tyres and Rims Fit on a GX with no Mods?

Hi, I am investigating whether I can put 7.5inches rims and the bigger tyre onto my GX Prado when I take delivery.

One tyre dealer has told me that its no problems straight swap etc and is offering me a trade on the tyres and wheels.

Another dealer claims that it can't be done easily and I would need to put flares on and make other mods that he has not elaborated on.

I would have thought that the bodies of the GX, GXL etc are all the same its just the extras that are different and that is should be just a straight swap.

Any comments would be appreciated.

The bodies are identical unlike the 120 series that would have required flares.

So many car sales people have no idea about their own product :roll:

Gets better, just went into the Toyota dealer and could not get a straight answer. Spoke to a patronising litle pratt who told me that the tyres and wheels are on the GX for a reason and that if I change them i will void warranty.

When I challenged him about this pointing out they are the same car just different wheels he could not provide me with an answer.

Check the tyre placard on the drivers door frame. They list both size tyers and rims for the GX and GXL

I read somewhere on Prado Point where Speedie Wheeels were fitted to a 150 GX that will support such a wider range of tyres like BFG all and Mud Terrains because the standard rim will not.
There is a Pirelli All Terrain that looks just like a road tyre to me that fits the GX and a Cooper.

The short answer is YES, they fit with no issues. The 120 series and the 150 series GXL rims are 7 1/2" wide instead of 6 1/2" for the 150 series GX. The offset changes so the wheels sit on the vehicle with the same track as the 6 1/2" rims. I found this question numerous times but never an answer so I took a punt and bought a set of Toyota 120 series 7 1/2" rims and when I took delivery of my new GX Prado, test fitted them before buying a set of BFG AT 265/70 R17s. Very happy with the result.
