  • How much air in tyres?

    Hi there,

The manual for my GXL says that it has to be 0.2MPa (265/65/R17). Obviously it is not enough. I found on a tyre related website (continental) that J150 in general has to have 0.26MPa in 265/65/R17 tyres and this seems to be just OK. I wonder what is the reason to put 0.2MPa into the manual and onto the label on the body if this is incorrect? Just human error?
Or maybe there is a reason to have 0.2MPa in OZ?

    Cheers
    Darek

Re: How much air in tyres?

Car manufacturers often specify a lower tyre pressure so that during a demo, the tyres are more absorbent of the bumps and therefore gives a more luxurious feel to the car. It also helps to generate slightly less noise.

Most 4WDrivers will run close to 40psi (275kPa) on the road, reducing to high 20's psi (200kPa) on gravel and then going down to high tens psi (125kPa) on sand.

Running higher tyre pressures on the road helps to reduce tyre wear, improve fuel economy and handling.
