  • Anyone used Bridgestone D694LT tyres

Has anyone used, or heard about, the D694LT tyres?

I was ringing around for prices on BFG's, and was told the Bridgestone was a better tyre, in that it would grip a bit better on wet roads, but was also very good off road, and was fairly long lasting and with a strong side wall. It read very well on the Bridgestone website, however, websites can fib a bit to sell products.

Price quoted was about $325- for a 275/65/17 in LT construction, with 1380 kg loading.

    Yowie.

Yes I have, great tyre I love them. I got 70k out of the passenger set I had so the light truck was a no brainer upgrade.

Re: Anyone used Bridgestone D694LT tyres

I fitted D694LT tyres on day 1 - about $650 change over for 5 tyres from memory.

So far, I have done around 16000km and have had no issues with them.

Have travelled Brisbane to Darwin, mostly bitumen but also a few gravel roads in the Lawn Hill area, by train to Adelaide, and returned to Brisbane via the Birdsville Track - lots of gravel, sand and mud. Also done a few local tracks with gravel/sand. I'm not into extreme conditions but the tyres performed well and handled all conditions I encountered fine as far as I could tell - but I'm no expert and have nothing to compare them to as this is my first 4wd.

The tyre size I used is 265/65/R17.

Stacks of reports on these tyres in the 120's section. They are excellent allrounders..

Thanks for your replies. Jax Tyres at Sutherland quoted $285-, better price again.

Re: Anyone used Bridgestone D694LT tyres

Fitted a set of LT 694s today: LT265/65/17 A/Ts (thanks to "Waltec" for suggesting I check them out). After negotiating with Bob Jane and KMart ended up paying $275 a piece from Jax Tyres in Toowoomba.

The sales rep i spoke to, he'd spent years at Bridgestone, reckons that the new LTs have 2mm more tread than the previous 694s - apparently about 12.5 to 13mm tread depth. Whatever, the tread is clearly much deeper than the Grandtreks. The tread pattern also appears to be more aggressive than the GTs. The rep reckons they are still very quiet on the highway - I'm yet to test this out - we are about to head off on a trip so will soon know.

              Hi Bear,
Did you manage to measure the tread depth on the D694LTs to confirm?
The Grandtreks are about 8-9mm when new.
              Muddies are about 16mm.

I measured mine when I got then and measured my spare which is a P694 and they were much the same, I thought it was around 12-13mm so if any difference maybe 1mm if that.

Has anyone tried the 275/65/17's instead of the 265/65/17's in LT construction?

The speedo may be a little more accurate with the 275's. I was told the 275's were fitted to 200 series Cruisers.

G'day Yowie, the 265/65/17 is the fitting for the 120 series; sorry I can't comment at all on the 275s. We went for a bit of a highway cruise this morning and was pleasantly surprised at the absence of any road noise. Remains to see how they wear. Cheers Bear

Re: Anyone used Bridgestone D694LT tyres

Just returned from a few weeks trekking around Tasmania. After 7K, mostly highway but quite a bit of light off-road, I am quite pleased with the performance of the 694s. No issues off-road (on some of the isolated rocky tracks without mobile phone service the LT construction was at least psychologically comforting). Quiet on the black top with just a slight bit of noise on some surfaces - but I don't think they are any noisier than the GTreks - possibly better. A bit surprisingly, I do notice a small amount of noise at slow speeds on smooth surfaces around town - the GTreks are a bit quieter in that regard.

And I think Hutch is correct about the tread depth :
