  • original 17inch wheels on LC150 KDSS (factory fitted 18inch)

    Hi there!

Maybe someone knows out here - my local Toyota dealer could not answer me for 100% sure.
I have got LC150 with KDSS and factory fitted 18inch wheels (265/60 r18 tyres).
I wanted to order for it original (Canyon) 17inch wheels (part number PZ49Q-J0670-ZE) for winter (to put it on 265/70 r17 tyres and have sligtly more clearance than stock), but it says in remarks - Not compatible with: KDSS System.
Non KDSS vehicles come with 17inch wheels from factory. My local dealer could not answer whether it is or not true and wont refund any money, if the wheels wont fit, because the are on order.
Is it really something to do with mechanical - that the 17inch wheels wont fit phyisically?

P.S. And what is the biggest tyres to fit on stock LC150? Whould 265/70 r18 (those are the only bigger than stock (265/60 r18) i can get in Latvia - no one will offer 265/65 r18) fit with no problem? And what about 285/65 r18 for summer AT? - they both are ~32.5 inch

    Thanks in advance!

    Season greetings from Riga, Latvia.

    According to this post

You can fit 17" wheels on the VX or Kakadu. The Australian VX has KDSS. However, note that the 17" wheel fitted in that post are CSAs and not genuine Toyota. The rim geometry might be different and may clear the KDSS components, assuming that KDSS has added or larger components near the brakes.

Re: original 17inch wheels on LC150 KDSS (factory fitted 18inch)

I spoke with some guys at Motorama Salisbury Toyota Service department about puting 17inch wheels on VX or Kakadu and they said that though the wheels may fit, there is a difference in rolling diameter which necessitates different settings which are made at the factory. These settings relate to revs / gear changes / speedo accuracy, and Toyota service departments don't have the equipment to recalibrate or compensate for any changes.
Ultimately, their position is that as long as the rolling diameter remains the same as factory standard, there won't be any problems, and obviously bigger changes will result in more obvious performance changes.
He used better words to explain it than i can, but that's the guts of what he said. Interestingly, he dodged my questions about things like impact on KDSS, wheel offset and brake caliper. I guess their attitude is that the any modification away from factory standard is an unknown an they can't comment on impact without any certainty.
