  • ARB Sahara bar with Tigerz winch - Solenoid box mounting

    Hi
I've got a 90 series with an ARB Sahara bar fitted.
I'm installing a Tigerz winch into it and wondered what other Sahara owners have done to mount the solenoid box and to keep water away from it?

I've seen one located in the hole beneath the cover plate which will require me making a bracket or something but I'm thinking of just cutting down the Sahara cover plate to allow access to the clutch lever and screw the solenoid to the top of it. This will get the box a little higher than placing it in the cavity.

    Any other clever ideas?

I have mine in the cavity, the box should be pretty water tight

      How'd you mount it?

I gather there's a bracket comes with the bar but I don't have it. Also I thought it would look better mounted on top of the cover than in the cavity.
Mind you there's less radiator air flow restriction in the cavity...

When I mean the cavity, I mean that the top plate that is above the winch, the bracket that comes with the winch is then bolted through the top of the bar allowing the controller to be countersunk into the bar, so that it looks nice an neat.

          Hi Crooza
The bracket that comes with the latest batch of Tigerz Grande winches is an angle thing that would have the solenoid sticking up at a 45 degree angle. Totally useless thing.

Found a bit of stainless today and cut out the same shape as the top cover minus the right hand end so I can still operate the clutch. Going to mount the solenoid on top of that as I don't like all the holes in the bar showing. Only concern with this is the reduction in airflow into the radiator with spotties etc all helping block it off.
Paints drying at the moment but if it stops raining, I'll try and fit it tomorrow and post some pics.

Another alternative I'm thinking of is totally waterproofing the solenoid and running an extension lead for the remote socket up into the engine bay. That'd keep the solenoid out of sight & waterproof whilst allowing easy use of when needed but I'll how I like the plate solution first.

            Hi MalcomM,

Have you just received the Tigerz winch with the latest delivery to the country? If so when did it arrive, mine is supposed to be in the mail arriving this week.

            Cheers

Hi there, I have a 150 GXL with the ARB Sahara bar and an older Tigers11 winch. I mountedb the control box on a bracket attached to the dual battery tray. It keeeps the front of the car cleaner and everything is out of the way. Easy to do as well and I am sure you could do something similar to a 90 series.
