  • My homemade drawer/storage unit

Knocked this up last weekend. Unfortunately went mad with staples but will color them later. Not quite finished yet as I want to trim corners in aluminium. I'm also thinking of putting my aux battery in there, don't know yet. I made it with one draw, a slide out table (needs covering yet), side wings to access under. My compressor is hidden underneath in behind the draw and plumbed to an outlet on the front of the unit, also switched there too. I still have to add 2 x 12v sockets there as well. I have my invertor mounted up on the cargo barrier along with the fridge monitor.

Nicely done! Nothing better than making it yourself to suit you exactly. Looks like a hefty battery! And I thought the 120Ah AGM was a big bugger.

Thanks mate, battery is a fullriver 120 a/h deepcycle. I dummy wired a 12v socket to the battery so I could use the fridge the other day, its not staying there. I'm still deciding where to put it at the moment. I'm thinking under the back of the unit, out of the way but because of the height space I cant put it in a battery box so I am unsure if it will be ok in the open although it would be hidden behind draw so nothing would touch terminals.

      Cheers

That battery would then be the same size as mine (Ritar but no real difference) looks much bigger though.

That looks good Steevo - makes my effort look very amateur! What are you planning to cover the table with - something easy to wipe clean I hope!

Also, how did you go fitting it to the floor - I built mine assuming the floor was straight and flat, then I put it in and had big gaps underneath the middle of it. Ended up spending another day mapping out the levels in the floor and grinding off parts of my storage 'box' and glueing little strips of wood to other parts!

Mine was bolted down using the 3rd row seat mounting points over the rear wheel guards, with a ratchet strap over the back and hooked onto the cargo tie downs - how did you bolt this one down?

Hi Tim thanks mate. Believe me its certainly not tradesman quality lol, but not too bad and will do me. I plan to either glue some laminate or stain the timber but leaning towards laminate. I have to be a bit careful as its a fairly snug fit (I should have made it slightly bigger forgot to take into account carpet thickness) and cant change it now. Mounting, well I toyed with a few ideas but opted for some heavy flat bent up into an L and screwed to unit then bolted to the 2 x third row top seat mounts. I also used turnbuckles at the front (tailgate) end down onto the tiedowns. I also made a piece of flat steel with 3 x holes drilled in it that goes across the second row side of the cargo barrier and screws through the barrier wire into the back of the unit so the barrier supports the unit and the unit supports the barrier, along with the barrier mounts. It is very strong and even when I violently tried to get it to move, doesn't budge. The problem with the floor shape, well I removed all the third row floor seat mounts altogether and it sits quite well on the floor now (I left the carpet in to cushion/mould to it).

              Cheers Steve
