  • Multi Info Meter

    G'day All,
I have recently purchased a 2002 Prado VX, and beside loving the new ride following an "upgrade" from a tiny WRX, I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the Multi Info Meter. I am trying to hunt one of these down for retro fitting, and I haven't been able to come across one, nor any info on the net. Can these be bought ANYWHERE?? And if so, can they be fitted to said vehicle?? We are looking forward to heading bush, and being a total novice, are hoping this will guide us as beginers. Any ideas and advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers
    Ed

as far as Im aware they were only fitted on the imported models, not positive though.
If they all work as good as ours I wouldnt bother, temp ussaly out at lest 10'C, altametere works off air pressure and is always wrong, compass requires resetting all the time.
If there is a way of removing it and all its sensors your welcome to it. than I could buy a dashmat for it.

      Glenn,
You couldn't perhaps describe how exactly to reset the compass? The MID had "Mode", "up-arrow" and "down-arrow" buttons - holding up and down for a few seconds and then pressing up causes the compass to flash which I assume is the resetting part. I've driven circular trenches in the dirt but still the compass only seems to show southerly directions no matter which way the car faces. Any help would be most appreciated.
      Thanks
      Chris

        Hi there,

From memory ( I did this once and it worked), bring your compass to set mode (I think it the pressing the left button then the right), drive your vehicle and make a complete 360 degree turn then press the left button.
The manual also suggested driving backward and forward 4 times each at 90 degrees angle to each other.
        No harm in trying...good luck

          Hello Ed,

I bought mine on ebay from a seller in Mongolia. He had it shipped to me and it arrived promptly in Chile. I paid less than US $80 for it, plus a $20 cable I bought from Toyota Japan through my local Toyota dealer.

I connected it, tested it and it worked, I plan to install it soon, for which i'll be making a custom mounting bracket since my unit came without one.

You'll also need the termometer's sensor used by the info unit to display the outside temperature.

                              Re: Multi Info Meter

Seems like a very long time to be bothering about this gismo ..... the compass and altimeter needs resettting all the time .... the only real useful feature is the temperature reading but that is usually off by 2 to 4 degrees .... I am considering ripping mine off ... let me know if you need it badly after your search ....
