Power Invertor (a few photos)

Hi guys,

Well after seeing pradogalv6 install of his power converter (See http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?t=2772), and having a free day I decided to install one myself in to my 90 series.

Only took a couple of hours and the result was that I now have power where ever I am. So here are so pics on how I installed it.

Hi Rob!
You had an excellent idea and made a great job. So I put my converter on the opposite side to use this senseless small pocket economic in my KZJ95.The wiring I did the same way but on the left side.
I only had red lines!And I fixed it with two bungee cords, 3 hours, perfect!

Great stuff guys I really need to get some power at the back of the Prado for all my lighting/cameras/computers when on location... you make it look so easy, I might have to give it a go

I know this is an old thread.

I have my inverter mounted behind the right panel in the cargo area. I then have one waterproof socket from my local hardware store mounted in the pocket area of the panel, and a triple socket extension cord mounted under the passenger side dash (I had it laying around, cheaper than buying a socket.). I removed the original wiring from the extension cord and hardwired it to the inverter. I ran the wiring by the right doors like the original poster.

I placed a switch by the triple sockets and wired that instead of the switch on the inverter, just so that I could turn it on and off even if the ignition was at off.

I now have the ability to charge the laptop in the front and something else in the back.

I also put a hose around the fan opening and routed it to a discrite location by the rear seats. There I drilled a few 5mm holes for breathing. I was worried that with the car being hot, the inverter would just recycle the air behind the panel and overheat.

Sounds like a great idea. Any chance of some pics as well.

This all sounds great. I would love to do the same but not sure with all this wiring stuff. Did you guys use a power board to allow more devices to be plugged in?
If so does this drain the second battery heaps, especially if you are using a laptop, tv and dvd player. Thanks for the ideas on more power outlets

Hi,
new to the site, I have the same model inverter. I don't smoke so took the ashtray out and mounted it to the ashtray mounts. Nice short wiring runs and handy for use whilst on the run. Most people don't even notice it sitting there. I painted the face black to blend it into the console a bit. Very simple to mount, run your big power/ground wire from the back, unscrew the four plug/socket face screws in the inverter, slide out the black cover and screw through the black cover into the ashtray mounts, slide the inverter body back on and put the four screws back. just get the distance correct so whatever you are plugging in won't foul on the plastic above.
