  • Radio aerial replacement

    Hi all,

Well thought I would put this one up here for all to see. This tread has been born out of all the times I have gone driving and forgotten to put the aerial for the stereo down and came a little to close to the trees. ops:

So after one night after a few drinks I tried to get the old stem out so that all I would have to replace was the stem and not the whole unit but that did not go so well.

    The end finished like this

It was not a good start. after a lot of time ringing the wreckers and trying to see if I could just replace the stem on the electric aerial it was just better off that I went and got a brand new one to put in.

Well $350 later  I had a new aerial to install.

Below is how the replacement took place.

First of all I had to remove the inner guard to get to the old aerial.

After this I saw the very clean  aerial that i was taking out.

Then came the task of removing almost the whole dash out to get to the aerial cable to take to old aerial out.

All so that I could get to this that was behind the speedo.

After the old one was out I replaced it with the new one.

Put every thing back together and had a aerial again. I can now listen to the radio station again instead of the same CD over and over again.

So the thing that came out of this besides the hole in the hip pocket was to always put your aerial down when getting close to trees and nature.

    Cheers,

    Rob

Got a similar prob, my radio mast needs replacing, the cogged "rope" is stripped, the new mast cost me $88 from toyota, speaking to the spares guy it s a semi common fault.
Now gotsomething to do on Sat morning

      Re: Radio aerial replacement

I had the same problem with the stipped cogs, bought an Aerpro replacement:

I forget how much it cost but was certainly cheaper than the genuine Toyota article. And to remove those plastic inner guard clips, just PUSH IN the pin in the middle about 2 mils then dig it out the clip with a flat blade screwdriver. Once removed , you'll then see how it works
